Brought a smile...
Hi There...just wanted to say how refreshing it was to read a blog about Yorkshire! (though my home is East Yorkshire, but still brought a smile to my face)....It's blogs like this that make things more real and I will certainly blog about my home town when I get back at the end of the year...currently in Vietnam myself...and a little bit homesick! Lol...sure it won't last long and you're blog helped! :) Tina x

Its not a sea dredger its a Heavy Lift barge that has been a blight on the view for a couple of years now. It was moored further offshore but they moved it in close last year.

Hi Russ (and Trish)....i saw your post on \'Flight English\' forum. I too am a member but rarely contibute after long ago being put off by the, at times, arragance, one-up-manship, smug and perceived sense of self importance some of the main contributers continually display inbetween the odd relevent point or example of teaching technique. I have however read some of your posts here and there and looked at your blog before today. A fascinating life you seem to be leading, nice one. My wife and i have had a similar TEFL related life of travelling and teaching...love it. I am currently teaching Aviation English in Spain after many years of being in the general TEFL/ESL world. Anyway, i noticed a comment about you currently being in Vietnam and that is one place that has always been on my list of places to live and work before i hang up my \'chalk duster\' (interactive these days)...so i was immediately interested in your experience there and wanted to ask a couple of questions if you don\'t mind that is (as i dont know you from Adam). Are you teaching Aviation English in Vietnam or regular TEFL? What is your impression of the country from a TEFL couple point of view? Do you have any tips, suggestions for working there...Aviation English or otherwise or for just travelling around there also? Ok, thanks for your time and good luck in what looks like a great life you have carved out for yourself. Cheers. Rob Walton

At least you didn't miss the train ;)
unlike us! Sounds like you are having a great time so far in Malaysia. Yes, we agree the Batu Caves aren\'t very spiritual, it may be different around Thaipusam time with all the processions. It\'s worth a look though, glad the monkeys didn\'t hassle you!

What no spiritual enlightenment???
This seems to be becoming a regular occurrence whichever temple you decide to go to. These places seem to be rapidly turning into tourist theme parks where the locals do their best to make a few extra quid, which is a darned shame really. Sounds like you\'re both having a great time anyway :)

Bisto
You can buy Bisto gravy powder in HCMC, in Select Mart in the Vincom Centre (bottom floor) and Diamond Plaza (next to the bowling alley), as well as from the Internationl food shops Phuong Vu and the one next door on Ham Nghi. Oh, and from Annam gormet mart on Hai Ba Trung.

what a year for you!
Revolutions and a big move to Vietnam, well you saw the year out with a bang and we are sure you are going to have loads of fun exploring Asia in 2012. You are just like us looking for stuff in Tescos...if you wanted bisto you should have tried the Foodland chain of supermarkets. Alternatively, Malaysia will probably have it while you are there - look in Cold Storage or Mercado in Pavillion (in KL, on the bottom floor where the food court is)! By the way, the Cadbury's sold in Malaysia is almost the same as the UK Cadbury's.

What do the monkeys do with the things they steal?
We have a theory that someone, sometime will find a stash of cameras with loads of monkeys posing for pics on them! We know for sure the little buggers can open crisps, maybe they have now got a taste for the paracetamol they stole from Trish?! Sounds like you had a fab Christmas, have a great New Year!

Hua Hin
I disagree with your blog. Hua Hin is an amazing place for young and old. We have visited many times and have had a great time on every vist. If your not willing to pay for decent accommodation then why bother to go on holiday (you get what you pay for). The bars are no more seedy than any other place in Thailand and the restaurants have some of the best food we have ever had, and we have travelling far and wide. Hua Hin is not classed as Thailands version of Magaluf as you have out it. You were expecting it to be full of back packers but then say you felt too old for the place. Majority of back packers are young so dont understand your point there. My experience is the complete opposite to yours as is many of ours friends who have visited. Its best not to have expectations then you wont be disappointed.

You've got great pictures
And great documentations of Kanchanaburi. I did a similar trip a couple of years back and as a war buff, your entry brought back nice memories of the trips. Greetings
