The clocks went forward last night.
We had a late breakfast in the hotel and left at about 10am for our leisurely drive down into Southern Spain. We have managed 335 miles today, giving up the journey at 4.45pm. We have travelled from Burgos today through the mountains to our overnight stop at Merida.
The dramatic part of the journey took us high up through the clouds. Being a Sunday, roads were very quite. No toll roads either.
We stopped just outside Merida in our search for a hotel, and met up with three English bikers from Cheshire who were enroute to Africa.
Stayed at the Sayago Hotel. No Wi-Fi tonight but a relaxing stay assured.
Got up next morning to find that we had been the only guests in the whole hotel overnight.
We will easily make Cadiz for tomorrow afternoon.
We have made further progress today debating the import duty etc on the car and exactly when we will change over to a Spanish number plate. Tenerife laws stipulate you can only drive in the country on an English number plate for 6 months in a year. We have toyed with taking the car to Portugal for a long weekend just before we have been resident for 6 months. We need further research to establish if this process can bypass Tenerife’s law on changing to a Spanish plate at 6 months. There are a whole variety of issues for consideration with regard to this. We already have several good contacts in Tenerife who no doubt will set us down the right path on this.
