This last week has been very relaxing. Monday was Valentine’s Day so to start off my morning I headed to 2nd grade where I gave a few minutes presentation about the holiday and then showed the students how to make Valentine’s Day cards. We spent the next hour making cards and completing Valentine’s Day word searches. The hour went by very fast, before I knew it I was off to 5th grade where I spent the hour grading an English exam. After the patio break I headed to 1st grade where I spent the hour cutting out pictures and bingo cards to be laminated later. I ended up leaving 1st grade early in order to give the other 2nd grade class their valentine’s lesson. So my work day ended the same way it started, drawing a ton of hearts 😊. After school I joined the staff for lunch and spent my free time on the computers waiting for my tutoring sessions to start. I began my lessons with Marco and it went so well. We spent 50 minutes of the hour going over the alphabet book and pasting pictures of objects in the book. As his reward we played with
Marco
His play room Thomas for the last 10 minutes. From his house I headed to Ignacio’s lesson where we spent the hour playing hang man, eye spy and monopoly. Both of the lessons went great.
Tuesday I had a normal routine at work; I spent the morning chatting with second graders, a free period for my third hour and ended the day pulling out the fifth graders to talk about ecosystems. After work I headed to San Agustin for my tutoring for the day. My first lesson was with the sisters. The older sister had a Karate lesson she had to go to so it was just the younger sister and I for the whole lesson. It was so nice. We spent half of the lesson studying for her English exam and the second half playing clue (kind of hard with only two people). After our lesson I headed to Miguel’s lesson. He had an English exam the next day so we spent the entire time completing worksheets and trying to understand the grammatical concepts. After his lesson I headed across the street to Nacho’s house. Nacho and I worked on English for 30 minutes and then spent the rest of the
Ignacio
He's a great musician! playing word games. For my last lesson of the day I headed across the street and worked through English worksheets with Lidia.
Wednesday was a very relaxing day; it was my short day at work. I spent my first two hours with 2nd graders, my next hour pulling out 5th graders and the last hour back with the other class of 2nd graders. I took the bus back into Madrid and went for a run around the park. After leaving the park I headed back to my house, got showered and then headed to meet the girls for our weekly dinner at Cien Montaditos. We sat and visited for over an hour and had a nice time. Afterwards I took the metro back home and got ready for Thursday’s lessons.
Thursday morning was a repetition of the rest of the week but the afternoon I got to do something else. For the afternoon I headed off to 3rd grade where I taught a lesson about landscapes and completed worksheets with the class. I really love the fact that I get to actually teach when I am in the 3rd grade classes. Afterwards I headed to 1st grade where
I got to work with the students on their daily questions. After school I headed to San Agustin for my lessons. My first lesson was really fun. Carlos was sick so it was a lot more structured. Veronica was so much better without Carlos there to play with. We completed a science worksheet, played marbles and then played with her new puppy 😊. Afterwards I headed to Miguel’s lesson where this time we worked on science. He has a new unit he must complete within the week so we are trying to work on it fast. Afterwards I headed to my lesson with the sisters. This time they were both there and we spent the hour playing charades and Pictionary. Afterwards I headed back down the street for Lidia’s lesson where we spent the hour writing a composition on artificial intelligence.
On Friday I ended up going into work to make up for the last day I missed for my Dublin trip. It was a very easy day. I spent the first hour pulling out the second graders but the third hour they had an arts class. We went to the theater and had a blast doing dancing games
with the students. The third hour I headed off to 5th grade where I got to grade another exam. Normally I would have another class in the afternoon, however the 2nd graders don’t have English on Friday afternoon so I was able to head out of there early and get back to Madrid.
To sum up the vast majority of my weekend, I pretty much was at home. The weather was not that great and I was hoping to chat with some people on line. I got to talk with many, so that was great. I really only left the apartment to run a few errands here or there. It was a very lazy, relaxing weekend that I needed after all my travels.
