So I am following up yesterdays disaster of a blog with one where I really have little to talk about. The past two days I have seen pretty much everything I had wanted to see in Madrid. The only exception is the Reina Sofia Art Museum. I plan on going to that at 7pm tonight when it will be free. Today is just a good day to catch up with stuff I have been meaning to do. Since the dishwasher here is broken I hand washed some clothes in the sink. Caught up on some blogging and added photos and hope to add a bunch of photos to facebook as well. Oh I did do one thing of note. I walked on down to the Atocha train station and booked a midday train to Barcelona tomorrow. I had wanted to get up to somewhere in Basque country for a couple of days but the trains there are pretty long and I did not feel like that would be doing it justice. I have wanted to go there for a while so hopefully I will have a chance someday to come back and stay for a decent amount of time. Plus, I
me
i'm embarassed keep hearing great things about Barcelona which isn't too surprising so it will be nice to have 5 nights there. That's really the biggest piece of advice to anyone who wants to do a trip like this. Take your time when you can. It is nice to set-up shop in a hostel for a fairly long time. To get all set-up and not have to live literally right out of your pack. So that is the short-term plan for now. Barcelona to Montpellier to Provence to Lyon. I'll update this a little later with the afternoon's events.
Made it over to the Reina Sofia right around 7pm for the free admission. I was supposed to meet up with someone I met in Sevilla but of course it is pretty hard to coordinate stuff like this without a phone so that fell through but oh well. This museum had a little more interest to me than the Prado. I even enjoyed one of the temporary exhibits of modern art. It was a photo collection with all of the pics being taken in Manhattan so that was pretty cool. Of course I checked out Guernica. It is pretty easy to find
bum sign
i'm just going to be honest... (sign from a bum) as it is in a room by itself with a hundred or so people just gawking at it pretending like they know how to properly interpret a piece of art. Checked out some cubism work and some stuff by Gris and was out the door and on my way back to the place.
Spent the night out with Fabricio and a few Dutch girls we met along the way in this area called La Latina which has a bunch of decent bars and ended up gravitating towards the club scene and ended up in a pretty crazy discoteca. A lot of people will tell you that Madrid is not worth visiting and as far as sight seeing you can see pretty much everything in a couple days but the nightlife is quite good. They've got a good mix of cervecerias, bars, tapas bars, clubs, etc. and there is always something different going on every night. Pretty fun time. Unless you are Fabricio and you have to get up at 7am to go to work on a couple hours of sleep haha. Definitely some good times in Madrid. Onwards to BARCELONA!!!
