Hello anybody,
Woke up with a clear head this morning…….Not like some I can tell you! The reason was that last night I took the bike to the campsite and had to drive back to the hotel later. More about that later.
Am ravenously hungry and do not know if I shall finish this before breakfast or maybe it must wait. The first thing I did on waking up was check the weather forecast. It is not good. On sunday, the day I had planned to leave it is forecast rain and thunderstorms for most of the day. This does give me thought because doing 600 or 700 Kms in those sort of conditions is really no fun. I do not have a lot of options because the ferry leaves from Cadiz on Tuesday.
The first real day of the Goldwing meeting started on Friday the first of June.Several events were planned for the day.As I was staying in the Hotel along with about 12 others we were able start the day in Vielha itself. I was able to find a good place to have breakfast and will probably do the same today also. With breakfast finished I headed off
to the campsite to meet up with the others. The morning was spent just sort of hanging around until it was time to drive back into Vielha where all the bikes were meeting for a drive out for lunch. With much hooping of horns all the bikes headed out of town for Bossot ,the town where lunch was to be. Glorious weather with 27 degrees plus made it a joy to drive. Lunch was a bowl of the local Classic " Olla Aranesa " Nothing special, I have had better soups on the Canarias. On finishing lunch we ( The irish contingent ) sat around over coffee before it was time to cruise back to the Camp site.
Back at the campsite I was able to get some Wind wings fitted on the bike. These are adjustable panels which can be adjusted to divert wind towards the driver or away from him. I also fitted what is known as the ring of fire. These are lights which light up the front wheel. Lights and Goldwings go together. If you have never seen a fully lit Goldwing it is hard to explain. I hope that some of the photos will give an
idea of what is possible.
I then headed back to the hotel for a quick shower and to get ready for the "Parade of nations " This is the parade which is always made at these events where the Bikes drive through the local town with all the flags of the participants flying. As we were starting there were flashes of lightning and rumbles of thunder which. Big fat drops of rain started falling but it was luckily soon over and we all met up in the center of the town.
The drive through the town was loud and colorful and the residents had their smartphones out and filming. Once we were through the town all the bike headed up the valley to Baqueira - Beret where a acrobatic bike show was planned. This was really spectacular with Wheelies, stoppies , one wheeled bikes , quads and more. I took several short videos and will try to upload them if I get the time.
Leaving the Show all the bikes drove back to the campsite where a BBQ and live rock group was planned and the judging of the best illuminated bike.
I think the photos tell the
tale better than I could and I shall finish up for the moment and go off and get some breakfast.
