Thursday - Today is Nicky's birthday. I woke up early and worked some. Nicky and Tim have Thursday - Monday off so they said they were going to sleep in but that we should come over around 11 for a pancake breakfast. At 11, we arrived and Nicky and Tim were cooking... We talked as they prepared the breakfast and then we ate. Nicky then opened her cards and presents and we talked some more. Nicky had made reservations at 3 for us to break tiles and make mosaics down in old town. We decide to leave around 1ish and go thru the park on the way there. We take the subway there and see the Arch de Truimph of Barcelona. It's made of brick. I'd never seen it before. We went into the park and had a coffee (I had a frozen lemonaid) and then we continued on. Nicky and Tim knew about some Roman ruins so we went in and looked. Seemed back in the 90s they were building this market area and discovered some very well preserved ruins of a city. The building is over the ruins and you can see down into them. You can see the

Birthday ballons - not but it looks cool streets and layout. It was really interesting.
Then we headed into old town and to the Mosaic shop. We arrived and took our seat and we were shown how to break the glass or ceramic. I chose to use ceramic and make a tray. Patty chose glass and a tray. Nicky and Tim chose ceramic and did both a picture frame and a tile. They collect tiles from places they've been and have been wanting one from Barcelona but they wanted it special.. What could be more special than making your own tile. They chose to do La Sagrada Familia. The owners had a stencil for them to sketch for the outline.
We started working. It looks easier than it is. You have to really think as you cut and break the pieces or you make holes that you can't fill. But we all got used to it and came up with our designs. This was such fun. It took us 3 hours to complete. You do glue the pieces down but after you complete the project you give the project to the owners. They keep it for a day and add grout to fill in

Nicky and Tim on a Mamoth the areas. We can't wait to pick them up tomorrow to see what they actually look like.
We head back to our places and change and get ready for dinner then head to Indochine. This is a restaurant Nicky has really wanted to go to and this week is restaurant week (well really it seems to be lasting 3 weeks) where you can get a meal at a good restaurant - fixed menu - for a very good price. This restaurant is a Japanese style and you sit at tables that are low and surrounded by water which contain fish swimming around. The atmosphere was just wonderful. We had a nice bottle of Spanish wine along with our small plates that we all just loved.
The dinner was an experience and I was so glad to be able to spend it with my daughter for her birthday.
