Monastery at Montserrat

The monastery built into the mountainside is truly an impressive sight.

The basilica at the monastery of Montserrat is lined with a series of unique censers. This is one of the few that I managed to get in focus.

We didn't stand in line to see the famous Black Madonna icon in the Montserrat basilica up close, but we saw plenty of her in the monastery gift shop.

The castle on the hill of Montjuic offers pleasant views of the city and the water, even on a foggy morning.

Memories of the Civil War

The pits in the face of this church were supposedly caused by machine gun fire when the Fascists executed Republicans here during the Civil War.
