This last weekend I visited Morgan in Barcelona! It was amazing! I got into Barcelona late Friday night around 11 but there was still plenty of time to go out! Barcelona is a huge party city, appartently bars dont close until like six or so and people stay up until five so they can take the metro again when it reopens in the morning! I was pretty tired though so we didnt make it til five, only four. Morgan said she hadnt seen a lot of typical tourist attractions yet so she and her friend Brittany were tourists with me for the weekend! We woke up Saturday and ate breakfast at a bagel shop, which arent too well known in Europe. i miss bagels! later, we walked to a building by the famous architect Gaudi. We saw quite a few of his works. The first was called Casa Batllo, it was really cool because there were pretty much no straight lines in the whole building and everything was based off of nature, such as Gaudi studied the ribs of whales to make his archways and he used lots of natural light. His buildings are really weird looking but really artsy and
cool! After Casa Batllo we saw La Padrera which was also done by Gaudi, this was a huge building where people could rent apartments. There was an apartment that was decorated like a typical apartment would be in the 1920s which was really cool. We went to the top of that building and got a really good view of the city and could even see Gaudi's most famous work, the Temple de la Sagrada Familia which is still under construction. After we visited Casa Battlo and La Pedrera we needed a break so we went to a restaurant called Tapa Tapa and ordered Tapas! I guess those are the most typcial spanish food and they were good! I would say they were like little sample appetizers, so we got a lot of them and I dont know what I ate but everything was delicious! We also had to order some Sangria and typcial Spanish dessert as well. We took a really long lunch break which was really nice because we were pretty tired and I guess thats typical for the Spanish to do anyway! Morgan said lunch is usually from like 2-5 and part of that is the siesta and
dinner isnt until like 9 at night! I think that would be kind of a hard schedule to get used to. Later we went to a market and got food for dinner and went back and took a siesta. That night we went to a fountain show in some Piazza which was really pretty! Music was set to the fountains, kind of like in Las Vegas.
The next day we hiked up to Park Guell which was also inspired by Gaudi, there we saw some houses that looked like gingerbread, they were really cute! We hiked to the top of the park and got a really good view of Barcelona. It's such a huge city! Then we ate some lunch at a Lebanese place that was really good and then made it over to Temple de la Sagrada Familia. This is the half finished cathedral my dad was telling me about. Gaudi was appointed the architect and construction began in 1882 and there will eventually be twelve towers, but there are currently eight. The place is huge! Its really amazing too with a ton of intricate details. I wish I could see it when its finished but that probably wont
be for one hundred years or so. We rode an elevator up to the top and got a really good view of the city, but it was kinda scary up there because its pretty open so it was windy and cold. The stairs were really narrow too and made you dizzy after awhile. After the cathedral we ate some gelatto and went back to Morgans to relax and watch a movie. Later we watched some TV, it was all about the elections because apparently it was election day in Spain on Sunday! I guess the president was reelected for another term. Later Morgan and I went to our hostel where her friend from high school was staying so they got to catch up for awhile.
On Monday Morgan and I took a long walk to see more of Barcelona. We ate breakfast by the Arc de Triomf and walked through a pretty park and eventually made it to the beach. That was a long walk so we took the metro back where we did a little shopping then ate lunch at a sandwich shop. Later we went to the Museum of chocolate which was really good of course and had
hot chocolate so rich you have to use a spoon! Afterwards Morgan and I went to the Court d'Inglase, which is a huge department store basically that takes up a whole block, is nine stories tall, and sells everything from toiletries to cars and houses. By then it was about time for me to go so I got my stuff and got on the train to go to the airport. Barcelona was a great trip!
