Anders and Me
Arrecife, Lanzarote Hello my fellow travelers!
This is the first of six posts I'll make about a trip to the Canary Islands, Morocco and Madeira in 2004 together with my parents and my uncle Anders. This post covers my time on Lanzarote.
Our ship, the M/S
Carousel, is an impressive feat of engineering built in 1971. She had several restaurants and bars, gyms, cinema theaters and lounges. We were allowed to eat and drink without limits while we were on boards and there was always entertainment running in the theaters, there were concerts, stand up comedy shows, cinema movies and casinos, all at our pleasure. This is what living a luxurious life looks like.
The first of these stops was at Lanzarote, it was a fairly brief stop and in my opinion there wasn't really much to see or do there as the place where we landed was quite barren. I did manage to buy some really cool cd cases with anime motifs to house my growing collection of anime at the time. So I guess the stop wasn't a total loss.
A nice little detail here is that the staff folds the towels in really impressive formations. In
Geisha Made out of Chocolate
M/S Carousel, Atlantic Ocean general all the staff here is very kind. Most of them are from the Philippines and Eastern Europe. I've been talking quite a bit with them and apparently it's tough work but very well paid so it's a very popular place to work on for a few years and then return home with good wealth to help your family.
We also had a midnight gala dinner with amazing culinary creations and for which we all dressed up in our very finest. There were a swan, a dragon and an eagle all made entirely out of chocolate. There were beautiful sculptures crafted out of fruit and lots of delicious cold cut meat. It was indeed a feast to remember!
Before entering into the banquet we also got to meet the captain and have our photo taken with him.
My next post will cover my time in Morocco and until then I wish you all peace and happy travels!
