Blogs from Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain, Europe
I have a lot to recount! It's hard to get internet at sea (they charge 100 E for 3 hours) so I'm going to try to remember 10 days of adventure now. I went on a cruise with my beloved boyfriend (it's official now! yay to me for not fearing committment) Vince to the islands of Lanzarote, Tenerife, Madeira, and finally to Malaga. We started in Barcelona. It was hard to focus on the sights with Vince there but I did my best! Lanzarote was perhaps my favorite island. It's a vast expanse of volcanic rock that's more reminiscent of another planet than anything here on earth. Jagged pieces of igneous rock cover the earth in sheets and piles. It is the island with the most recent volcanic activity and thus has not reached a developed ... read more
My first holiday!! Lanzarote May 2011
Published: August 29th 2011Europe » Spain » Canary Islands » LanzaroteSo I have just returned from my first proper holiday (though mummy and daddy did drive me all the way to Scotland last month for a weekend away, but this time I went on an aeroplane!). It was a very relaxing holiday for me, I got pushed down to the 'strip' and the lovely habour a lot, where mummy and daddy had really good looking food, but they were mean and wouldn't give me any I also got to splash about in our private swimming pool nearly everyday though it was a little bit cold at the start of the holiday because the sun didn't want to come out. Mummy wasn't very happy about that! Unfortunately I did get ill for a couple of days and then passed it onto daddy and mummy, but we all ... read more
It looks like we had a bit of trouble with time last night. We had set up our own clock in the cabin and got up when that said 9.00. When we left the cabin, Theresa checked her watch and it said 8.30 – 1 hour behind the clock in the cabin. When we got to the restaurant for breakfast we asked one of the staff there and they informed us it was 7.30 – 2 hours behind the clock in the cabin. It appears the electric clock is running fast. Would not have thought this was possible. No wonder we were not ready to get up. We will try to get it right for tomorrow morning. Weather outside this morning is bright but chilly. A lazy morning updating the blog and other bits and pieces. ... read more

Hello again! I’m currently somewhere off the coast of western Africa headed towards Spain. The cruise I’m currently on stopped at 3 of the Canary Islands, which is awesome. But I’ll expand on that later. Because I’m actually doing work on the bridge and working alongside officers I’ve been able to make more of a “hello, hey” kind of relationship with them. So in Vigo I went out with an officer and a bunch of the quartermasters (guys who drive the ship, act as an extra set of eyes while underway, and do safety related jobs onboard) for lunch. Vigo is the biggest fishing port in all of Europe so seafood was on the menu. We started with some octopus, squid, and mussels then finished with the best Paella (Pie-Eh-a) any of us had ever had, ... read more
We arrived the next day in Lanzarote with no problems and soon were being shown around our new abode in Costa Teguise. The apartment was lovely and spacious with a view of the sea and a pool. We threw our clothes into the wardrobe and headed out to explore picturesque Costa Teguise and sample some traditional Canarian hospitality. Well traditional Canarian hospitality consists of Sky TV, English Breakfasts and Beer. So not all bad, especially when the beer is 1.50 euros from our local bar where our two Canarian hosts (from Bradford originally) kept us up to date with movies. What was harder to find was a decent coffee. We tried the many English bars who quite clearly had only the vaguest notion of what the coffee machine was for and spent quite a while trying ... read more
Peaceful and relaxing at Costa Teguise
Published: October 20th 2009Europe » Spain » Canary Islands » LanzaroteReturned home from our week's stay at The Galeon Playa Apartments at Costa Teguise. The apartments are in a quiet location, yet only a few minutes walk from the main area and only 500 yards from the nearest beach. We didn't eat at the apartments as we went self-catering, but we couldn't find fault at any of the restaurants we ate at apart from one (sorry, we forgot the name). However, the problem we experienced was when they brought a complimentary bread roll at the start of our meal. It turns out they are not complimentary at all, but in fact 1 Euro each, so be warned! It is common practice apparantly on Lanzarote, so politely refuse if you don't wish to pay this high price for a bread roll....we did. Overall, a great little resort, ... read more
(Note - to view larger photos, click on the first one and another screen will pop up, then you can scroll through them all) This was really a cool day! We hiked around the volcanic land of Lanzarote. This is a small island - 12 x 33 miles and most of it is covered in volcanic rock. Apparently, the island was very fertile farmland until the mid 1700s when the volcano errputed and covered much of the land in lava. The outer regions of the island are covered in a fine rocky soil that is really very fertile. They grow grapes for wine, among other things here. Our guide Antonio was very knowledgeable of the region and the geography. We drove about 1/2 hour from Accerife, where we docked, to the Timanfaya National Park. We hiked ... read more
Well I went to Lanzarote for the weekend got back at 2.30 am today. The reason i went was to celebrate my Mum's 60th Birthday. Generally i hate this kind of holiday i get bored so easily and British people generally annoy the shit out of me when they are on holiday. Its all lets see how drunk and annoying we can get and see if we can make an even worse name for ourselves in such little time. I went for my Mum because im a good kid and i love my Mummy. To be fair 3 days there was a perfect amount of time. I didn't get that bored i had a laugh with the family. We caused mayhem at the karaoke. I nearly got into a fight with a 60 year old Peter ... read more
Lanzarote Sunday 25th November After spending the morning tidying and ensuring our bag was packed we were ready when Colin picked us up at 11.30am. We had no problems checking in at Stansted and security was well organised and efficient. We killed a little time in the duty free before making our way to the lounge at the gate where we read the novels we had brought until it was time to board. A very bumpy landing ended our flight into a windy, rainy Lanzarote. On the way to the luggage Judy bumped into an old friend Ros Keep who had lived for several years in Perth before returning to England where she now manages a pub near Cambridge. They talked fourteen to the dozen but unfortunately Ros and her friend Mike were booked into an ... read more
