morning in our plaza
the buses drive the narrow streets in order to restock the restaurants Day 2…a day to relax, and take in the views
It was a good day to relax in San Sebastian, as the weather was perfect! A wonderful 73 degrees with no humidity. It was amazing. Summer and I woke up at a leisurely pace and decided to take a
café con leche in the plaza right beneath our hotel. FYI, if you want the ambience of sitting outside, expect to pay a little more. It always costs more to eat there than it does inside the bar. I say bar, because really that is what everything is here in Spain. It does not have the same feel as a “bar” in the states. Alcohol is not the same taboo as we have in the US, it is more cultural. You go to the bar to eat, have coffee, hang out – kids will go there – and never have a bit of alcohol. It is called a bar because you can get alcohol there, but is never a necessity.
We decided to hike up
Monte Urgull, one of the two mounts that surround the bay of Concha. The hike is beautiful and not really a hard one to do.
Monte Urgull
the walk begins We started walking up the side of the mount that is the closest to the bay. You get to see the different colors of the water, and really get to see the island that is in the middle of the bay. There are wind surfers and all sorts of water sports going on. The higher you go the closer you get to the fortress on the top of the mount. There are old cannons still there, and once you get up to the top, in true Spanish culture, there is a chapel and a big statue of Christ. It is impressive. It was well worth the hike. Summer and I would stop at various places and just sit and watch the sights. We took it easy, it was nice.
Again, we partook of the
pintxos and it was delicious. The seafood is great, and really, though more expensive than some places in Spain, it is still pretty cheap for what you get. For instance, for 2 bucks you get crab or lobster spread on bread, or any other type of seafood spread. There is a little more than seafood, but as it is a seafaring community, that is the
Monte Urgull
it just is a slight up. thing to grab.
Later, we headed to take a siesta, then went to the beach! The water was very cold, so I did not swim, but I did enjoy sitting and reading. The bay would be a wonderful place to swim had it been a little warmer. There were so many people already laying on the beach, I cannot imagine how it would have been on a nicer day. I can see how it is the place to be in the summer. There are so many different languages and countries represented there. It is a hub for Europe to visit Spain. I saw many Britons, French and a wealth of other countries represented.
Later that night we just went to go and eat at a typical tourist spot to see the sunset. It was worth it for the sight. The food was average, but not worth what you paid for it…so really, we were paying for the scenery. We then got ready for the 12hour bus ride that we took the next day to Granada. It was a long day, but we made it there safe. School starts Monday, so it will be an update a week unless
Monte Urgull
and then it keeps going. something big happens in the middle of the week.
