San Sebastian from Monte Urgull
We were looking forward to swimming in that water! James, Leah and I had been waiting for ages to escape the Spanish heat by having a swim on the north coast at San Sebastian, but as luck would have it, it was the one overcast day!
We only had a few hours here, so started off with some sightseeing. We randomly wandered into ‘Plaza de la Constitucion’ where a local brass band was playing and people were dancing. It’s so neat to come across things like that which fill the place with such atmosphere!
We had a look at the waterfront and climbed the big hill, Monte Urgull, which presented views right across San Sebastian. We got to the monument at the top before making our way back down the cobblestone path to the Basilica de Santa Maria at the base of the hill, a grand old church with an intricate entranceway.
We grabbed an ice-cream and James went for a swim at the beach despite the unfortunate weather. We had a look at the large Cathedral del El Buen Pastor in the middle of the town, with its towering steeple, then rushed back to collect our bags and headed up to the bus station.
However,
Plaza de la Constitucion
A brass band were playing filling the air with music! we missed our bus by 5 minutes! We went to the train station to see if there were any trains heading in the right direction, and bumped into Klaus while we were there! - we knew we had to bump into him at some point on this trip, we always do!
Unfortunately all the trains were booked out today, so we headed back to the bus station and managed to sneakily use our old bus tickets for the next trip. We got back to Pamplona with just enough time to get our connecting bus back to Madrid and then our flight to Porto - yay Portugal!!
