sorry, antonette took all the pics ON the beach and I don't have them yet I am back and ready to tell about more that you have missed. I forgot, in my other blog, to talk about the day that Antonette and I decided to get out of our room for the siesta and do some exploring. You see, I had gone for a walk that morning just to pass the time, and within 5 minutes I realized I had no idea where I was. Ok, I knew where I was in respect to where I live; I was not lost, mom. But, I had never been there before which is interesting because I was very close to where I go all the time. So I realized that we have been sitting in our little comfort zone for a few weeks and we needed to explore.
You see, the city is divided up into barrios (districts/neighborhoods). I live in el centro, which is like the city center where all of the expensive and trendy shopping is. Barrio Santa Cruz is close and it is the like historic district that has also become quite the tourist district. Triana is across the river and has a lot of the popular clubs and bars that americans go to.
Other than that, the other barrios are mostly neighborhoods, but with shops and restaurants, too. They are all in the city.
So, Antonette and I grabbed my Sevilla guide book and went on a tour of the Mcarena district which borders ours. There were some gorgeous old churches, cute tapas bars and coffee shops, and fun stores. It was great because a lot of the stores in el centro and santa cruz are like souvenir shops and the ones in macarena were not. Also, the tapas bars were a lot cheaper than the ones that we come across, because of their location. We are very excited to go back for dinner this sunday because we happened across a tapas bar that I have read about many times that is very old and traditional. El Rinconcillo. We are planning to go there this sunday with Luis, the mexican guy that lives in the dorms with us.
Anyway, Antonette and I really felt good about the use of our time that day and we are now obsessed with exploring and using every minute of our time. Mostly probably on Thursdays because we have a very long siesta break in our
pretty sky
we went to the rocio, this like super famous church that they all walk to one day of the year... on our way back from the beach schedules on Thursday. We got a little anxious when we saw how few weekends we have left here. By that I mean this semester, because Antonette is leaving in December. Plus, I kind of hope to be more comfortable in the city by then, like I live here.
So... fast forward to our trip on Sunday to the beach to ride horses. We paid for this trip through the program and it was canceled in September because it was really rainy on the original date. The bus took us to parque donana which is a national park on the coast. It is very beautiful. The trees all look like you are in Africa. We kept noting that and it was fun to think about why it was like that. WE ARE SO CLOSE TO AFRICA. It seems surreal because, I mean, Africa?
The beach was especially amazing. It was very long with beautiful soft sand. There were tons and tons of shells all over the beach and they were huge, colorful, and not broken. When you got to the water, there were even more shells. We spent a long time looking for gorgeous shells like little kids! The
Not too many pics
I was tired, unimpressed, it was a church trip also included a horse ride along the beach, which was really the main attraction of the trip. Well, as you may recall from my last blog, I was very tired by Sunday. In fact, I was dying. Then, I got on my horse and it was retarded. I am not really kidding.
Ok so the guy in charge asked who had experience. I said I had been on a horse a few times, but that I was definitely not a rider. So we alll lined up by experience, but then I ran to the bus to change my shoes. When I came back, everyone knew the name of their horse that they would ride. So I was left. He was like oh that's ok, you have experience right? and I said well yes, but only a little tiny bit. So he said ok you have "Morita." Well, it turns out it was important for me to have experience because Morita doesn't have any. Great. My horse was so stupid. All of the horses were like staying together like horses do when you go on a group tour. Yeah, but mine was so ridiculous, I like really had to
here I am wanting to leave
sorry to be such a downer, but hey I am allowed one bad day, right? ride the horse and like do stuff.
Then, even worse, all of the horses had soooo many flies on them. My horse could not deal with it and kept throwing its head from side to side and then backwards so that its disgusting gnarly hair kept hitting me in the face. And... all of the flies were not just on the horse, they got all over me. I am talking flies on my face, arms, legs, body, hands, head, AND MOUTH! Yeah.
Needless to say, I now know that Brendan and I are perfect for each other because now I understand how a human being could hate horses like Brendan does. I hated that animal. Ok so I did have a little fun with how ridiculous it was and how pretty the park was... I can't say I hated the whole day.
I was so tired when we got back and really ended up having probably my worst day in Spain since my day of jet lag. This just shows exactly how important sleep is for me. My life sucks when I don't sleep enough... lol enjoy the pics...
