Logarska Dolina
Early morning view of the Logarska Mountains from TK Perk Logarska Dolina - T K Perk
After a good night’s sleep, I woke early and managed to get out and try and get a few early morning photos. It was a bit overcast, cold, but the sun was trying to break through. It wasn’t the most successful of shoots, but it gave a flavour of our surroundings.
Breakfast was at 8am and none of us were quite sure what to expect, but we set to and managed to plough our way through. We started with bread & butter with honey or fig jam, and then we could have eggs, boiled or sort of scrambled then along came all the cold meats & cheese. All this was washed down with either a mint & herb tea or coffee with hot milk. The thing which throw us was nothing arrived together, so you’d be happily tucking in to bread & butter & jam, when an egg would appear and when you thought it was all over, wrong, this great plate of salami, prosciutto and cheese appeared (all made on the farm).
After the driving of the last couple of days, we decided to take some of our breakfast bread & cheese with us

Cows at Perk waiting to go out for the day, with pet rabbit in the foreground and go for a walk from the farm and see where we got to, so did the farms Golden Retriever, who joined us.
We set off past the next farm, Matk, and then struck off up the hillside on a forestry type track. It wound up and up, and after about two hours of climbing, we made it to the Austria/Slovenian border! We decided that this was a good time to turn round and head back, we were above the snowline, and it was getting decidedly chilli. All this time the dog accompanied us and was having a wonderful time, clearing sheep & goats from the path, and obviously looking after us.
Just after we had turned round we stopped at a hunters clearing, complete with stilted lodge, plus a small, deep pond. It seemed right to break open our provisions and watch the dog try and catch the fish, which were in the pond. She was having a great time splashing around; the fish didn’t seem to care. Out of the blue, we were rudely interrupted by a chap in a 4x4 who had come up to feed the fish! These were being grown on for the table!

Brunos' new friend? that bit of excitement, we headed on home. The dog was a bit hacked off with turning for home and disappeared half way down (we didn’t see her again that day). By the time we got back to the farm, we were both somewhat knackered and fell asleep for a couple of hours before supper at 6pm.
As the previous night, this proved to be substantial, we started with soup (juha), which was probably chicken stock with cauliflower, then another stew based on pearl barley, sausage and I think mutton, followed by fruit salad. We both decided to try some wine, big mistake, if we had been served red wine vinegar, it might have been a little less sharp, it was a labour of love to drink it and not offend our charming host.
