Blobbing in Bled
The weather has turned to custard overnight and after the thunderstorm had passed through last night it had rained a fair amount and it was still raining lightly this morning.
It was just as well that we did our walk around Lake Bled and drive to Lake Bohanij yesterday while it was at least dry.
The guy who showed us our apartment on Saturday had said that it was predicted to be only 10C today and he was not far out.A quick look at the day encouraged us to stay in bed and watch TV.Of the places we have stayed in Eastern Europe this apartment has the best selection of cable channels in English to watch. Some places we have stayed there have been absolutely nothing in English available and we have resorted to watching a DVD we bought with us on the laptop to while away the evening.
The next round of DVD’s downloaded from the video camera are ready to be posted back to NZ as soon as we can buy some plastic sleeves to put them in and so we will see what the supermarkets nearby might have in their stocks to satisfy
our needs.
The rain had stopped by the time we had had breakfast and were ready to drive to the supermarkets at the next town over from Bled just a short few kilometres away.BUT it was cold at 10C and shorts and short sleeve shirts are out for today with longs trousers and shirts making a sudden comeback. We hope that this cool change is just a short term thing.
A walk around the Spar supermarket whiled away part of the morning.Supermarkets in foreign places are always so much more interesting as you try and decipher if the packet you are looking at will provide you with the sauce or whatever you want to go with a meal. What is lacking in Eastern European places we have stayed is the frozen and chilled meals that are suitable for our microwave cooking.Luckily this Spar shop does have a small selection of chilled dinners for us to try out.
Its soup weather and Gretchen has found a packet with a picture of mushrooms in the aisle with what look like Nestle brand packet soups. So we have our lunch!!
We didn’t though find any plastic covers for the DVD’s to be posted back to NZ in so we might just have to hold out until Salzburg perhaps for a €1 shop similar to where we bought the last pack.
After lunch the afternoon passed by quite quickly as we searched for accommodation over the next couple of weeks and made bookings and Gretchen amused herself trying to beat her last score on the game of Patience on the laptop.
We decided at around 4pm that we should go out for a walk to ensure we didn’t succumb to cabin fever and as it hadn’t rained for a few hours we should be able to get a good distance in over an hour or so and work up an appetite and a thirst!!
The temperature had gone up a couple of degrees but it was still jacket weather and it was just as well as we had only walked a couple of hundred metres and the light rain started again. We pressed on to the lake to take a look at what the scene was in rain and heavy overcast. There were a few tourists around probably like us trying to avoid cabin fever, but no takers for the half price boat rides in the rain on the lake out to the island with the church.
We were quickly back home to the apartment and some more junk TV before it was time for dinner, this time a rather tasty risotto for me and sausages and what looked like and tasted similar to potato for Gretchen.
So really not much happened today and most of it we spent blobbing out and getting ourselves accommodation for future stops on the adventure.
Slovenia and Bled have been a very beautiful and worthwhile place to come and experience and despite today’s rain and we are pleased that it was on our route as we head now back to Western Europe.
