We walked (all down hill this time) with our suitcases to the boat dock, and left on the 9:00 am hydrofoil to Piran, Slovenia, 40 minutes away. We were very glad to leave our dingy airbnb, especially after being awakened several times in the night by a man right outside our window yelling for "Vera" to let him in...!

It turned out that our initial inclination to abandon our money and find a new place in Trieste would have been a good idea. While the apartment was quiet at night (a major consideration in Trieste, since it is a very noisy city), the place had nothing else going for it, and the "owner" turned out to be a nasty man, who accused us of urinating in the bed (via email) and wanted to charge for us for extra cleaning...I contacted Airbnb and I can't say enough about their customer service! They immediately took over the case (we have excellent host reviews) and even sent us a gift!!!

I had contacted the owner of the Piran airbnb and she arranged for us to leave our suitcases in small shop while we waited for the studio to be ready. We went to a waterfront cafe, where we ate breakfast and I swam..delightful! We met her husband around noon, and he walked us to the studio. Piran has very narrow passageways on the interior that never see sunlight, and a wide street on the water...

The studio was tiny, and dark, but beautifully laid out and it didn't feel too tight for the two of us. The bed was so comfortable, especially after the unpleasant bed in Trieste..

We spent the afternoon walking around, swimming, and sitting in cafes...

The next morning, Helena, the owner, told us that the studio wasn't rented for night, so we could stay until we left for our bus to Ljubljana at 4:00! We read on the concrete beach, swam, and had a late lunch before heading to the little bus station. The bus was late, and the traffic was stop and go all the way to Ljubljana, so we got in an hour late. Our gracious host Urb was waiting for us by the apartment building which will be our home for the next week. The apartment is beautiful..on the top floor, with an elevator, washing machine, a separate bedroom, a COUCH!, and
