Bratislava, Slovakia

Bratislava is a beautiful little town. We viewed the Opera House (under renovation) and heard a lecture from its director, then had a wonderful walking tour of the Old Town. They have a terrific sense of humor in Bratislava, as evidenced by the many silly statues in the city. At the end of our walking tour, we watched a wonderful concert by a locally famous pianist and her twelve year old violinist daughter in a lovely old church. Before returning to our ship, we had beer and a dessert in one of many cafes in the city. The evening was a traditional Slovakian wedding, put on for our benefit at an ancient wine cellar turned restaurant, where we learned more about the culture of Slovakia, and ate a traditional wedding meal of goose liver in goose grease, followed by roast goose with sauteed red cabbage and potato cakes (like crepes). The desserts were a choice of apfelstrudel or topfelstrudel, followed by noodles with butter and poppyseeds or ground nutmeats. It was a wonderful evening. Tom loved the goose!! 😉
