The first leg of the tour entailed us venturing from Moscow to Urssk. This took four days in total. Let's just say that four days of no showers and having to go to toilets that were rather disgusting took its toll on me :-)

Putting the cleanliness issue to one side, the train journey was enjoyable. All of the group were extremely friendly. There were people from Iceland, South Africa, Sweden, Portugal and of course Britain. Hearing about all of their different cultures was so informative.

Sleeping on the train was hard at first. I felt I had to sleep with one eye open so that no one would steal my belongings but after getting to know the three other girls I was sharing with I relaxed a little and I was able to leave my stuff in the compartments whilst I was away. (Mind you, this would literally only be a few minutes as the only place you could go to was the toilet and they were not a form of escapism!)

54 people could sleep in this carriage so our tour only took up three of the nine compartments

You were able to have time to get off the train when it stopped to stretch your legs. This is when you could buy food and drink from the locals
