In Russia, corruption has become an enourmous problem. International companies like IKEA have either halted expansion, refused to enter, or threatened to pull out because of such circumstances. Alexandra Wrage of the TRACE International program says "Somebody came up to me in the break and said: 'If I don't pay the bribes here, I am really worried that my office will be burned to the ground.'" This shows how influential the corruption is in Russia. Because of these conditions, Russia is suffering the loss of many international businesses, which is one blow to their economy due to corruption.

According to the article "Russia corruption 'may force Western firms to quit'" by Michael Stott, other countries such as China and India are suffering from internal issues as well. China's corruption includes bribery mostly at the top of the power chain, while India has problems with corruption mostly at the bottom of the power chain and tapers upward.
