Fortified church - Fofeldea
Driving to Bradeni I got the chance to take some pics.. next time we'll pay a visit! Ok, as I already thought, things never go exactly as you plan them.
Due to technical problems (this pc of mine seems to be older than I am - and I am not getting any younger either 😊 = 😊) I couldnt upload my pics from the last days of travel around Sibiu.
Finally here I am, hoping that I ll finish what I've started a few weeks ago.
Although the plan was to visit most of the saxon fortified churches around Sibiu, Friday a few friends from Agnita and UK invited us on a fishing trip (70 km away from Sibiu) near the small village of Bradeni. Of course we planned to visit the churches from Agnita & Bradeni but also enjoy our time in the nature.
Well, after the Medias experience we were all exhausted. Its very interesting how we never have time to do things as normal people - always on the run, about to miss the train/bus, never allow ourself to enjoy the journey - and every time we travel, some cool place remain unexplored. In this short trip I woke up earlier than the days I have to go to office, I walked more
than 10 km each day (obviously exercise needed) I found out about wonderful places I didnt even know they existed and hopefully next year I ll come back to explore them.
As a friend of us from Sibiu promised, he drove us to Bradeni, a 1 hour drive or so, through Transylvania'a rural area, absolutely wonderful landscapes, every small village we passed had a fortified church, which unfortunatelly we didnt have time to visit but I did my best to take some pics (not so good ones though).
We were lucky to have the greatest weather, actually very hot day, had time to get some tan (and sunburns as always) got some fishing lessons, unfortunatelly no fish, barbecued (thank God we brought our own meat, otherwise we would have starved waiting for the fishermans to catch anything).
Although before I arrived to Bradeni I was determined to go back at night in Sibiu cuz camping near a lake in the wood, going in the bushes and no morning shower isnt my idea of comfort, I was just hypnotise by the whole atmosphere and decided to stay over the night. And I dont regret it, it felt even better
The gooses lake
Finally in Bradeni, there were some gooses and many goslings on the lake. than when I was going in summer camps when I was a kid. We had time to relax, great barbecue offered by the guys, plenty of drinks, huge campfire - we, the women didnt move a finger to help, it was a treat.
Of course, when we ended the party (around 3 AM) and everybody went in their tents I wasnt the happiest person around. Coming from the campfire, inside the tent seemed very cold, under me I was feeling a big stone on my back and when some people fell asleep and started to snore it was more than enough for me. So I went outside and walked around the lake for another 1 hour and a half - I have to admit I never seen such a beautiful sky, so clear it seemed so close that I could touch it and millions of stars. It was definetly a different sky from the one I see in Bucharest.
When my friend, who promissed me to drive me to Agnita in order to catch the Sibiu bus, woke up I was so happy I ll soon be in my hotel room and shower. After a day around a
Our camp in Bradeni
All the rights reserved to Florin, my assistant :) barbecue, a campfire and so on, I was definetly smelling as smoked meat - in times like this you surely are reminded to appreciate your comfort and what life offers. As we were ready to leave the camp we hit a tree root and got stuck on it. So we had to wake up everybody and lift the car.Wonderful start I was thinking....Of course I missed the 5:30 bus and I had to wait the 7 o'clock one. Had time to enjoy the village life, heard of cattle taking over the streets, truck drivers offering to take me to Sibiu and a lot of dung scent in the air. The bus ride seemed neverending, as I said it was cattle rush hour, each time you had to stop and wait for them to move out of the way.
Arriving at the hotel, had the longest shower ever, packed my thing and checked out. The plan was to go to the train station and reserve tickets for the midnight train to Bucharest and although at the info point was available when I went to the ticket office the lady told me it was canceled like many other trains. The only
train on that day was leaving Sibiu at 2:30 PM (meaning in 2 hours). My friends were still in Bradeni and as I had already checked out from my hotel I had to buy my self a ticket to Bucharest. I walked round the old center of Sibiu for the last time, took a few more pics and promised to come back again and again... there are always places and thing you dont get to see and there is a lot to see around there.
My backpack was very big and heavy (dont wask me why cuz I have no idea) my skin was suffering from the sunburns and the 30 minutes delay of my train didnt help either. It was verycrowded, I nottice many people had a ticket but no seat so i felt lucky. Took a short nap and tried to make my ride as pleasant as I could. Met a nice couple from UK and it was very interesting to see Romania through their eyes.. just 2 people with a guide in their hands, trying to discover the good and avoid the bad parts. As I plan to spend my winter vacantion in London they were an
inspiration to me.
Arriving in Bucharest, I got back to my own reality... who said that people who come in Romania and only visit Bucharest, have seen nothing about what Romania really is, was right.
Well no bitching about my lovely city... See you soon!
