So we left Spain we had about 4-5 hour drive to the first winery in Portugal. When we stopped at a gas station to go to the bathroom and get some snacks, we saw a bunch of magazines for my second favorite soccer player, Cristiano Ronaldo. I knew this was because he is from Portugal. On the drive I saw vineyards, where the grow grapes for wine. It was amazingly beautiful. The sky was clear and it was amazing view from the top of the hills. The slopes of the hills went down to the Douro river.
When we arrived at the first winery,
Wine and Soul, we couldn't exactly go in because the winemaker, Sandra, was not there. We drove around the neighborhood and asked some people where the entrance is. They showed us where it was, but it was locked. The people who helped us called Sandra who said she would be about an hour late. It happened to be that the people who helped us had a restaurant so we ate some soup that was delicious. Finally, the winemaker arrived. Her winery was pretty small but pretty cute. They named their wine after their dog Pintas which
is spots in Portuguese. I was kind of sad that he was at their house, but Sandra promised me that we could go to her house after the wine tasting to meet Pintas. So, after wine tour and tasting, we drove around the curvy road to get to her house. She had 3 children, but her husband was not home. The oldest son liked Neymar and Ronaldo like me and even had the same Neymar shoes as me. Pintas was really cute.
We then drove to our hotel, which was also a winery (
Quinta da Vallado ). When we went into the room it smelled like sushi, which I loved. After we got situated, we went to dinner at the hotel. There were many different courses such as bread and olive oil, sausage, and many other things. I had bacalhao for my main dish. It is very famous in Portugal and Brasil. After dessert we went to bed.
After a nice long rest, we went to our first winery. We were driven around by our own driver, Carlos. We drove about an hour to get to our first winery (
Quinta Vale Dona Maria ) When we go there we were greeted by two
dogs. One of them was kinda calm and the other was jumping and barking when the car pulled in. It was a small winery but my dad and Ania liked the wine, but I of course stayed and played with the dogs.
The next stop was for lunch at a big winery (
Quinta da Crasto ). But to get to this nice place we had to go up and down and up and down a very curvy road. My Dad, Ania and I kinda felt weird. But when we got there it kinda felt like we were VIPs because we had our own dining room with no one else there. Me and my dad had roast beef while Ania had vegetable lasagna. I was excited for dessert but.....I went to the bathroom and I kinda sorta got locked in. I was not panicking because it happened to me before. The key was kinda like an old fashioned key so it was different than the ones I am used to. After about 20 minutes, I finally opened the door and as I deserved, I got dessert. For dessert, there was cheese, this fruit thing that tasted really good, and my favorite, the
Sandra's House
So cool meeting Pintas and the kids orange mousse. After lunch we looked at an infinity pool at the winery. It was really cool to take pictures by it as the view was amazing.
Next stop was small winery but we did not stay long, but there were dogs. The final stop was kinda of the hotel, but the winery was at the hotel. We stayed there for a very long time. The funny part was when we were in the cellar I, of course, was the only kid and something dropped and who did they look at? Your one and only...Sofia. But it was not me, it was a grown women playing with something she should not have . While all the adults were doing the wine tasting I played my game "hungry shark evolution" So fun!
We then went back to the room, ordered some tapas, and went to bed.
