The Place
It was an after thought to have a look at those two places for we were very close. We had a bed and Breakfast on the outskirts of Leiria. We stayed with a very nice man who came original from Belgium. He talked a hundred out and was at times very funny as well. We were only two nights there so we had one whole day to go to first Fatima and on the way back was Batalha that has en enormous big church, but about that later.Fatima is only 15 k.m. away from where we stayed. Did not take long to get there. We quickly found somewhere to park. Very cheap only one Euro for 2 hours. We walked the small distance to where the Sanctury is. It is an enormous area. It is the place where the three shepherd children saw the apparitions of a Lady more brilliant than the sun. She spoke to them and gave them instructions and spoke to them on further occasions. This all happened at 13th of May 1917 the first and went on over a few years. The children were than 7,9 and 10 years old. At the exact place people pray and

light candles. The informations office told us miracles still happen. We visited also the Bacilic that was build there. The place is very similar to Lourdes. Next place we visited was Batalha and this enormous Mosteiro Da Batalha and this means battle monastry. They call it a Gothic master piece. It was in gratude for the victory over Juan 1 of Castille in 1385. It is church like. The ceilings are that high, the Architect was frightened that it could collapsed any time so it is said, he employed only convicts under sentence of death to work on the project. It certainly the highest vaulted work we have seen sofar on this trip. It holds many graves, one of them is of Henry The Navigator. Next place to visit is Lisboa. Bye for now Liz & Allan
