We arrived in lisbon, Portugal by bus from Porto. The bus took about 4 hours and was full of stinky sweaty people topped off by tiny seats which made even the best of friends uncomfortable sitting next to eachother. We finally arrived to the city and caught the Metro to the stop that led us to our hostel. When we arrived we realized the address of the hostel was about 10 feet from the exit to the metro but we were confused as to where the enterance was. We noticed where our hostel should be was actually a suvenier shop we looked a little closer and saw a sign that said hostel with letters that looked like they once said Kitch, the name of our hostel. We stumbled inside the gift shop and low and behold our hostel was at the back of the shop in the upstairs apartment. The stairs to the hostel looked as though they had seen better days and could possibly give way at any moment. We carefully chose each step until we got to the top and found the enterance door to the hostel. We got in and noticed the lobby area was FULL of people,
we set our bags down and got the full tour of where our room, bathrooms, kitchen, etc, was located. The receptionist was very nice despite the jail cell feel our room had to it. The hostel had an amazing atmosphere, with collages and crazy paintings everywhere and a huge hang out area in the lobby. Later that night we met our new roommates, two girls originally from Canada but both were studying abroad in two seperate parts of Europe. They were very nice and we soon made plans to adventure out for nightly activities once the weekend rolled around.
The next few days were a bit of a blur living our twenties to their fullest. We found a street with a bunch of vendors on it much like a flee market. We each bought a piece of handmade jewelry and got to see all of the awesome crafts that people were selling. We were soon craving something to eat and decided to wander around until we found a place that looked inviting. Almost everything is closed on the weekends which made this adventure a little harder. We hiked to the top of a hill and found a really amazing
park filled with plants that satisfied our plant nerdiness for about an hour. After wandering around trying to identify everything we found a cafe that offered 4 Euro hamburgers. We were sold. We both ordered a hamburger and were very surprised when the waiter placed the plates in front of us. The hamburger was located just underneath a sunny side up egg surrounded by lettuce, tomato, olives, and french fries. We gave eachother a strange look and dug in. It was amazing, we will make a European hamburger for everyone when we get home 😊.
We took a tour of Castelo de S. Jorge and it was amazing. It showed the ruins of the castle and surrounding few villages. It was beatiful, although it was packed with tourists. We got an amazing view from the top and learned a lot about the city and history behind it. We went to Belem the next day which is a small town outside of Lisbon where we were told to just go walk around. We took the train there and ended up getting an incredibly cheap lunch of fresh sushi. We walked around all day here and saw some amazing parks, lots
of fisherman and a castle in the river. Their were so many things to do in Lisbon and we hardly scratched the surface but we had an amazing time.
