We have now been in Lagos, Portugal since October 3rd– hard to believe that almost a month has gone by. We have met quite a few of the cruisers that are here for the winter in the marina – most are from Europe and many are repeat customers coming back to Lagos year after year. We met these very friendly Portuguese ceramic artists who taught us a great deal about the history of ceramic tiles. We bought this lovely bowl and they generously gave us a gift of the tile with the sailboat design.

The castle on the hill at Silves makes quite an impressive sight and the walls are quite extensive.

One of the gates into the city of Silves is still standing and is quite an imposing structure.

The castle at Silves is in quite good shape and many of the towers you could walk into.

The tide was much higher than we thought for a town that is 8 km (4.3 mi) from the ocean. Thie bridge built in the 13th century is on the site of a Roman bridge.

Upon finding this unusual cistern-well with a shaft surrounded by a stairway & domed ceiling the archeology musuem was built around it. Well worth a visit!

The size of this cistern at the castle is large enough to supply 1,200 people with water for a year. This helped them survive during the siege in 1189. & it was used up through early 1980s

This is the first gothic structure we have seen in Portugal.

We found out that there are quite a few golf courses in Portugal so anyone for a golf holiday??

Outside the train window we saw lots of orange trees loaded with fruit. We learned that the price is so low they aren't bothering to pick them. What a shame as they look really good

We are getting our anchor chain & anchor galvanized & fortunately for Janice a fellow cruiser helped Bob with loading all 400 feet into the cart.
