The rain had returned overnight but at least as dawn came up it started to clear away which should give us an opportunity to do a little exploring of Albufeira.
It had been a few days since we had done our washing so there was that to catch up on and with the help of a small washing line around the corner of our poolside apartment we could at least get the clothes on the line and give them a good start to dry in the sunshine.
The downtown area of Albufeira is fairly small or at least the part we discovered on our late morning stroll was.
We retraced our steps from last night’s excursion out to dinner and ventured past Ricardo’s Restaurant but kept our walk back from the beach as we had the idea that we would be able to return along there and we didn’t want to go over the same ground twice.
We had got ourselves down from the cliff top path and were at sea level thinking that to get back up to a point above the beach we would have a hill to climb somewhere. To the rescue came three
pedestrian escalators! Well two that worked and one that didn’t.
We can’t say we have seen escalators at the beachside before but they were in full use with people coming and going between the beach and the cliff top. That is all except the last one which was out of action and we actually had to do something physical to make the last stage to the view point.
There seemed more people around this morning and perhaps a few more aeroplane loads had arrived on their packaged holiday from England as the predominant tongue was definitely English.
We got as far as we wanted to walk along the cliff top and so dropped down to the beach. After the rain last night the sea was a bit more active and there were no takers to actually be in the surf.
The sun was just over the midday yardarm so a beer on the beach at a cafe seemed appropriate before we strolled home for our lunch of Heinz baked beans. And anyway the sky looked a little threatening to the point that as we sat down to do some people watching large spots of rain began
to fall.
We adjourned indoors as the waiters wound out the covers over the large family groups of Brits who had been enjoying their beers and coffee in the sunshine.
People came and went and the sky cleared which suited us as once we had finished our pints we were off back up to the cliff top and headed for home and lunch. Beer is certainly cheap at €2.50 a pint and had we been prepared to be back from the beach to have a beer it could have been as cheap as $1.90 a pint!
Our Heinz baked bean lunch came about after we passed some tins in the supermarket yesterday and we thought they might be tasty after the other options we have had at lunchtime. As it turned out Heinz beans do not have as much tomato flavour as our home grown brand Watties but they were still satisfying for a change.
The afternoon passed with time for a snooze and then as we thought we might enjoy the poolside location outside of our apartment we were joined by two your women, scantily clad with iPods playing repetative type music.
Now they
had the whole pool area to park themselves to sunbathe but no they wanted to stretch themselves out virtually at our feet.
They lasted about an hour which was just about right for us as it was time for pre dinner drinks before our roast chicken, roast potatos, carrots and peas dinner.
We ended a fairly lazy day with an hour of Michael McIntyre on stage in London in 2012 on YouTube before the hour of the night got the better of us and we will have to return to the end of the programme tomorrow night.
