Hi, everyone! I haven’t written anything for a while, because I didn’t have such an opportunity. Recently, I have visited China and the trip was really unforgettable. I will tell about it later, as soon as I upload all the photos and videos to my computer. When I was in China, I wanted to write a new post for my blog, but, unfortunately, my laptop went out of order and I couldn’t fix it until I came home. Now, everything is ok, so I’m going to write about my trip to Norway, which I made only 8 months ago. So, let’s get started!
I have heard so much about Norway with its unique fiords that I impatiently waited for the next vacation. So, as soon as I have got the chance to go there, I quickly packed my things and rushed to the country I have dreamt about for a few months. Here is the story of my visit.
A Few Words about Norway Norway is the country with unique nature and kind-hearted people, who fluently speak English and welcome all the tourists. Apart from the natural wonders, picturesque landscapes and pleasant people, there is something special in the
country – something, which attracts millions of tourists from different corners of the world.
Norway is popular not only with tourists, but with the owners of the world-famous manufacturers and suppliers of utility products. 50 years ago, the large supplies of gas and oil were found in the shields of the North and Norwegian Seas. The Norwegian businessmen could not overlook the opportunity to install the oil-extracting equipment on the bottom of the sea, which has quickly made them the owners of one of the most effective hydrocarbon production complexes in the world. Although, this fact is beneficial for the country, it also affects the high prices for food, dwelling and transport in the country. This is one of the drawbacks I have to mention here and this is what prevents many people from traveling to Norway. But I’m sure that those people, who have visited the country, will admit that it is really worth the money they spent.
Outstanding Cities and Fiords of Norway Oslo – the capital of the country. Tourists say that this is a beautiful town with a large number of museums and other places of interest. I didn’t have time to visit
it, so I can’t say whether this is really so. However, if you have more time than I did, I’m sure, the city is worth visiting.
Bergen – my favorite town in the fiords region and the cultural capital of the country. Bergen is also called “The Gates to the Kingdom of Fiords”. In my opinion, much attention in the city should be given to the fish market and the observation platform on the Fløyen Mountain and the Tyskebryggen.
Alesund… According to one of the surveys, this is the most beautiful town in Norway. This opinion is shared both by the tourists and the residents of the country. The charm and magnificence of the city is explained by its location, because Alesund is found in the kingdom of fiords on 7 islands at a time. If you are right about to visit Alesund, you should pay special attention to the observation platform on the Aksla Mount and the Atlantic Oceanarium, where you cannot only see, but also hold and touch the sea animals, the skates, the sea cucumbers and the huge lancet fish that is two meters long. Apart from that, it is possible to take a round
trip along the fantastic Geiranger Fiord.
Flom and the Flom Railway – the most beautiful high-altitude railway in Europe. If you are not pressed for time, I’m sure you should visit it. The brightest impression of the ride is the stop near the Kjosfossen Waterfall.
Stavanger – the oil-producing capital located to the South-West of the country. The city looks magnificent, but it is mostly famous for its suburbs. From this place, you can take a cruise along the fiords and visit one of the most well-known Norwegian fiords called the Lysefjord. This is also the place, where the famous Prekestolen and Kjerag Cliffs are located. I was amazed to see the large Kjeragbolten Stone between the cliffs, which has stuck at the 684 meters height above the Lysefjord. This is one of the highlights of Stavanger and Norway in general.
The Gejranger Fiord – one of the most picturesque fiords in the country. This place is really worth to be visited, even if you do not have much time.
My Top-6 What-to-Do-in-Norway List The travel to Norway may last for as many days as you wish – this depends upon the time you have and
the amount of places you would like to visit. But as far as I had only a week at my disposal, I decided to make up my own what-to-do-in-Norway list in order to manage to see the most outstanding places with my own eyes. Here it is:
• To climb the Nigardsbreen Glacier – this is the No.1 point, which ensures the unforgettable impressions!
• To go on a fiord-safari on a boat along the Gejrangen Fiord
• To ride a water bicycle on the Loen Vatnet Lake
• To travel by train on the Flom Railway – the most picturesque high-altitude railway in Europe
• To have a dinner on the Westeros farm and to pat a Peruvian lama there, enjoying the views of the Gejranger Fiord
• To get acquainted with a Norwegian, to visit a Norwegian home and to look at the life in the country from the inside in order to understand how people live in one of the most expensive countries of the world.
Guess what? I managed to do all the things I have planned and I also visited some other highlights of the country! Happy traveling in the fiords!
