Oslo Airport - Gol/Al (around 200km)
Light driving for my first day - I wanted to get a feel for the car, the roads and all that. (Also, let me weep at the gas prices around $3.10 a litre) Its pretty slow goings here - even on the highway it’s usually only 80km, few small sections at 90km. But of course a lot of the roads are curvy with the scenery which slows things down. All good, all part of the experience 😊
The water was on the driver side most of the drive which made for lovely scenery, but not many pit stops. I’m really bad at gauging pit stop entrances when they’re just the little pavement spots rather than the photo stop areas (I need to figure this out haha) - since the water was on the other side, the photo stops were all on the other side and many don’t really have entrances from both sides. That’s ok though - it was still a gorgeous drive. I particularly enjoyed being in the valleys with the almost vertical rock surfaces on both sides.
I was going to stop at the stave church in Gol but it
looked rather abandoned and the traffic was awful so I just kept going lol. I popped into the grocery store for some car snacks and got what I hope it peanut butter and jam. I’m feeling good about the peanott… less so about the raspberry substance - I’ll find out tomorrow when I open it lol. I’ve not had a good track record of my own doing - I’m horrible at bothering to read labels. In Oslo I thought I was getting yogurt with fruit bits or jam (they have all these two compartment containers - often muesli and yogurt combo). So I was excited to see this jam one… well… it was jam and rice pudding instead of yogurt. Tasted amazing once you got past the look of mixing them together lol.
ANYWAY. I then made my way up into the mountains on this super random tiny road that you just hope you don’t come face to face with a truck type road. I’m staying at a little mountain lodge that is adorable. Not quite sure what I’ll do tomorrow yet, but I am going up towards Flam. Let the real beauty begin!
Lastly, I leave you
a true Julie driving moment before I even left: I had fun trying to leave the airport lol. On the remote I tried to open the trunk - it beeped but nothing happened and there’s no sensor or handle or anything so I’m standing there like ???? I pushed it down, nothing. I got in the car and looked for a button, no idea lol. But with the car on it beeped at me that the trunk was indeed open. Wtfffff haha. I got back out and after touching absolutely everything (hey, gas hatch clicks open) I finally figured out you need to like push the VW logo, which tilts it out into a handle. Idk maybe this is normal either way, have a good laugh at my expense lol.
