Flying in front of the Grasshopper
The Grasshopper is the most famous "coffeehouse" in Amsterdam. So its our last night in Amsterdam, and I’m ready to leave this town. I liked today better than yesterday, but I think I’ve had my fill.
We woke up this morning at 6:00. Eva wasn’t feeling so well, so I showered first. I liked this because it gave me enough time to refresh myself for the day. Breakfast was at 7:30 downstairs. I just had Melba toast, a slice of bread (both with jam) and OJ. Not too hungry this morning. After breakfast, we went up to check on Eva and make sure she was joining us. The three of us headed down to the bus at 8:15 for Edam.
Edam was a really cute city. Since the World Cup is about to start, the entire city is covered in orange (their colors). We started with the bicycle tour, and it was a really relaxing, good time. I got myself a medium sized zebra bike, and I crashed about 4 times. Considering how much I used to ride my bike as a kid, I thought I would do a lot better. Not so much. I was fine when I had both hands steering, but when I would try to

in Edam. Taken before I crashed. take a picture with my camera, I would veer straight off the road. We passed by fields with grazing cows, little houses along the canals, and an old windmill. It was such a relaxing time, and I wish it could have lasted longer. Don’t know if my ass could have taken it any longer though.
After that, we headed to the Cheese & Clog making place. The cheese demonstration was kinda rushed, and I didn’t really catch what she was saying. The clog demonstration was better; the guy made a shoe right in front of us. Then he blew into it, and all this wood juice poured out. Gross. At the shop, I bought my mom a pair of little clogs (€9).
Back in Edam, I also bought myself a cute Holland shirt (€11.50) and a patch (€2.50). The souvenirs are starting to add up.
Ok, after the clog factory, we went back to downtown Amsterdam for our diamond demonstration. I saw some very pretty stones, but not any jewelry that I am fond of. It’s a shame that the stones I like just happen to be the most expensive. Ho hum. Across the street, I had some

There once were 3 women who lived in a shoe... M&Ms for lunch (€ .70). Not exactly nutritious, but it’ll do.
After the exhibit, people grouped off for their free time in Amsterdam. We were first going to head to Waterloolein for some shops, but they were closed for holiday. So instead, Char, Eva, Hillary, Erin, and I attempted to make our way to Anne Frank’s house. On our way, I am very happy to say that I never got lost! I rule at maps now! Anyways, we stopped for lunch at a café facing the National Monument. I didn’t get anything, but I enjoyed sitting in that atmosphere. Again, very relaxing. I don’t know why the Dutch people even need pot.
Finally, we made our way around to Anne Frank’s museum. I found the museum to be very moving. Embarrassing to say, I don’t think I’ve ever read the diary, but I really want to now. I was getting choked up at some parts. It was pretty emotional. Definitely worth the €7.50 to get in.
After that, we had some free time to wander around some more before we met the bus around 5:00. We went up and down the streets, but they were all pretty much the same: souvenir shops.
We went inside a few clothing stores, but I didn’t feel compelled to buy anything else.
We caught the bus back to the hotel, only to find that it would be picking us up at 6:30 for the evening and “cultural” show. I had pretty much decided that I wouldn’t be going to the show, but I wasn’t sure what to do instead.
At this point, I was hungry, so I wanted to go to FEBO for some dindin. On our way, Char went to the ATM, and I went to the Internet Café, which, sadly, was closed. Somehow, I ended up alone on a quest for an internet café. I went about a half mile by myself and only found some food places open (and they looked good). No computer cafes. I walked around some more, and I cleared my head a bit, which was… relaxing.
On the way back to the room, I noticed that both Eva and Charlotte were gone. For some reason, I thought I would be staying by the hotel, but I guess I’m going to Amsterdam again... and I guess I’m going to the sex show. Hmmph. Before I boarded the bus, I did check out FEBOs. It seemed cool to get your food out of a window, but I couldn’t understand anything. Eh, I wasn’t in the mood for fries anyways.
Since I didn’t eat, the first thing I wanted to do was grab a bite to eat. We ate at Tivoli’s pizza, and I split a Hawaiian pizza with Erin. ( €8). After dinner, which took a nice relaxing time, and then it was time to head to the Grasshopper for the show. I got to fly my kite again before we left.
The show was interesting. Kind of mindless, really. I didn’t realize the “people having sex” part would come so quickly. Ba-dum-bump. Anyways, it was just people having sex on stage, and putting things in places, and smoking cigars. Not as bad as I thought it would be, but maybe not worth the € 26 either.
Well, I am glad to be leaving Amsterdam. Onward bound!
Total for the day: € 65.20
