Kombi love in Amsterdam
Amsterdam - Netherlands Oh Amsterdam, why do I have to leave you?!
*went geocaching and had success!
This is culture central, such an accepting, positive and free environment to be in. Everyone seems relaxed and chilled, not to fussed by other people's beliefs. But at the same time, the people seem to be social yet peaceful activists for the things they believe in, fighters against all injustices even if they don't necessarily concern them personally. For example, we saw an exhibition that was explaining to social climate in France at the moment where students are forced not to wear any religious icons to school. Whilst the exhibition didn't explicity propagate a wrong or right side to the argument, it did parallel this situation to the religious persecution of the Jews etc and also paralleling it to the communist regimes where religious people were forced to hide their beliefs.
I'm currently sitting in the hostel lobby listening to 70s music and updating the blog. The place reeks of Nimbon or any other hippie commune across the globe... And not just in the 'soft drug' sense. It's almost as the the entire place has been built upon the hippie culture, I love
Bike ride of Amsterdam
Amsterdam - Netherlands it. The Beatles are playing now <3
So far I've done a walk around the red light district (which actually seems quite relaxed and natural here... Well not to me, it was quite eerie seeing women selling themselves in windows, but to everyone else it's perfectly normal), taken a leisurely bike ride around the city outskirts, checked out Rembrandt's house and visited the home of Anne Frank.
I had a good cry in the annexe, it fel good after not reacting in Auschwitz. That poor little girl. My theory is that in Auschwitz it's all far too much to comprehend... and the guides push you through so quickly. In Anne Frank's house I could take my time and really take in where I was and what happened there. I bought a special edition copy of the diary, only sold at he house, and purchased few books that will supplement the Diary when I teach it.
Tonight we are going on a dinner cruise of the canal as a last farewell to each other. Leah, Liz and I leave the Topdeck bus tomorrow and make our way from Bruges to Brussels in Belgium. Looking forward to taking things
