So, there is an extra room in my apartment, and the walls are made out of pure concrete... Needless to say, when you clap your hands in such a room, the amount of crazy echoes that follow is reminiscent of a racquetball court... This is not what you would call the ideal situation for making quality music, or good recordings for that matter.
For the last few weeks, I've been in and out of Dutch hardware stores getting the materials to acoustically treat the room, which has been fun and a real learning experience. I had to cover the walls with acoustic foam, and build false walls in the corners to trap bass frequencies that were causing a problem. I'd say I'm about 75% done with it, but already it looks and sounds ten times better! Might be able to get some good work in, but what an ordeal!
