We were pushing on as it was the end of September and our original plans were to get to the marina in Lelystad, Netherlands in early October. Unfortunately Janice was having some medical problems which caused her problems with doing too much on the boat so we were taking it slower than normal. This gave us an excuse to make a few stops on the way. Our first stopping off place for an overnight was the village of Grou. We weren’t there long, but did take the time to walk around the town. It was pretty quiet when we were there so we had a relaxing evening in the marina. It’s all in the translation…which may mean it is lost….and when in doubt Google. We ended the last blog on the optimistic note that some poor people had to go back to school and work this week – that of course was ridiculous. How can children exist without 6 weeks off in the summer? There we were in a new harbour when we are introduced to Mickey, a ginger and white cat who lives on a tiny ie about 16ft long boat, Slobby, with his 2 owners on their 3 week annual holiday. He normally lives in an apartment in Friesland so seems to quite enjoy the freedom a lead gives him when boating. So back to Sneek to where Isabela will spend her real summer without us, a little tiny marina attached to a boat building company called Brandsma – they build Vlets like ours but unlike Smelne have been building all through the recession. We knew that a fellow sister ship who had lived at Brandsma for about 6 years so we thought it was a good place to find out about and Isabela was warmly received so we hope it will be good. Our friends arrived, this time by car which poses its own challenges – where to leave a car and the necessity of retuning to pick it up. Luckily Brandsma were very happy to oblige.
