This is the entrance and courtyard connected to the Royal Palace you will see upon arriving beyond the Medieval walls. I believe the royal family still occupies this palace and you can take tours of it. Unfortunately I had arrived too late in the day to do so. This is part of the front facade of L'Institute Oceanographique. For 10-12 euros, you can see three floors worth of specimines, decorative arts using marine life, historical exhibits and an aquarium to inform you about the field of oceanography and its relationship with the royal family of Monaco. This is my pick of a must see while in Monaco/Monte Carlo!

You can find this garden next to L'Institute Oceanographique, and is worth a stroll in because of all the non-European plants it contains, but also has a nice view of the Mediterranean Sea and of Monaco.
