Ahh got back from Venice last night. everyone else is still there, but keri adn sarah and i decided to come back early because its really expensive to stay there and we saw everything in the first day anyway. Venice is so beautiful though. Gorgeous. Started out pretty rough though. Since keri sarah rachel and samantha and i all had eurail passes we didnt get the reservations for the train and were just going to use our passes instaead. going fine until about florence until the guy came by to check our passes and told us we had to pay 20 euro for our seats (the reservations would have cost 12 if we'd bought them before). 20! that was about half my budget for the entire trip. good thing i brought extra money with me, even though now i have about 2 euro left in all. i need to go to a bancomat this afternoon. anyway, we were all super pissed about that. what is the point of even buying the stupid passes if it doesnt do any good. i pretty much wasted one of my days of travel on it . ugh. it turns out it was just becasue we
were taking a eurostar train. i will never take eurostar again if i can help it. we could have taken the intercity train for free, but it only went ot the station outside of venice. but we ended up taking that train home for free. but i'm still pissed abotu that 20 euro. since keri sarah cassie megan and i were all just staying one night, we all stayed in a room together. the room was nothing but 5 beds. seriously, taht's all it was. the beds were really soft which was a nice change from our hard beds back home, but the room was freaking cold. venice is really cold right now. the coldest rome gets at night is about as warm as it gets in venice during the day. as soon as we got there keri adn sarah and i got a map from the front desk and walked around town towards San Marco square. it would have only taken about 30 to 40 min straight there, but we stopped in every store along the way so it took abotu 2 and a half hours. that's why venice is so expensive, becasue everything is so pretty you have
a gondoleer
they really do dress like that to have super will power not to buy things. i do not have that. the stores either sell glass stuff or masks or both. its all so pretty though. there are stores where they are making the most elaborate masks i've ever seen and some of the glass stuff is so pretty (and expensive) that it made me really nervous just to be in there. i wish i could have gotten more pictures of the glass stuff, but they didnt let you take pictures in the galleries. it so gorgeous there. all the canals and tiny streets. i loved not having to look out for crazy taxis and motorcycles trying to run me over like in rome since there arent any cars in the city, just boats. pretty nice. we got to san marco square and oh god the pidgeons. sarah had a loaf of bread so as soon as you get out a little piece, one pidgeon will see it and fly up to get it and as soon as the other ones see that one flying up to get food, about 20 more will fly up to attack you. they could probably carry away a small child. it
me and keri
walking around town. was really cool. so after we were done playing with the pidgeons we got tickets for the ferry back up to the hotel. the gondola rides cost about 100 euros, but the ferry ride was 5. and you see the same stuff up the grand canal. it was freaking cold though. venice has almost no nightlife. at about 8:00 the stores were closing down and by 10 the streets were almost empty. and our hotel room didnt have a light bulb in the overhead lamp so we just had one little bitty lamp on one side of the room. so we all just went to bed early since there wasnt much to do anyway. got up in the morning and got our breakfast down at the cafe below the hotel. very good and all. hten we did some last minute shopping and took the train home. since we took the intercity train home, it was a 6 hour ride since we had to stop at every single station between rome and venice. there are a lot of cities between rome and venice. we finally got home at like 8 or so. and that is it i think. venice is very
beautiful, but i'm glad we only spent one day there. i wouldnt know what else to do there if we'd stayed.
