Gilatto
My huge arse gilatto I got in Florence. Luckily David helped me eat it it cost 12.00 euros
It is Sunday, four more days left of our vacation. What a change Florenze is from Rome. Where Rome was historical and seemed very much like a locals place, Florence turned into a Tourist trap. Street vendors everywhere trying to sell knockoffs of everything and anything you can imagine. It was clean though so that’s all that mattered. We found the hostel rather quickly it was just two blocks from the train station. We were a bit early so we had to store our backpacks until after 2:30 when we were allowed to enter the rooms. (They shut down the rooms from 11-230 so they can clean the toilettes and rooms. So we decided to join the tourists and roam the streets of Florenze. It was a huge shopping meca, an abundance of asian tourists, and a mass amount of South American street vendors. The thing I love about coming over to Europe is that you can just start walking and end up walking half the city in a day. Its great exercise because you don’t realize how far you are walking because you are constantly looking at shops and restaurants and maneuvering yourself through the throngs of people.

THE DAVID
Me in front of "The David" this isnt the original but one outside in a square. He's big :) is not a lot to see in Florence unless you are into Art and Museums. The one thing I wanted to see what the statue of David (THE DAVID as they call it) I am glad we I looked at my tourists book because the museum closed on Mondays and that’s when we planned on going. Luckily I still had some Euros left in my pocket, because it just so happened that we passed right near the museum when we were hunting down some food. It cost 6.50 euro to get into the museum and seeing the statue was worth it. He is massive, and the detail of the muscles and veins on the sculpture is remarkable. And there he stands in all his glory, muscled buttocks, flaccid package and all. The glory of history and art. There were a lot of sculptures there that Michelangelo created, all finally detailed and all with a story to tell. In one of the back rooms there was an area that had over 100 clay molds. It was interesting to see how they created the marble statues. It maybe took us an hour to get through the museum then we decided to check in to the hostel so we can change and rest a bit. As we were walking we came upon the most beautiful church, it was huge and colorful and when the bells rang they vibrated through the city. David forgot his camera back at the hostel so we didn’t get any pictures but I grabbed some postcards. For the rest of the day we just walked, searched for the “best” giolotto had some cappuccino, did some window shopping and took in the scenery.
Lunch was interesting, we ate at a café/cafeteria and I was not at all impressed with the food. It was pizza made from scratch but it tasted like I pulled it out of the microwave. We decided early on that we were going to try pizza and gialotto in every city we get to so we can compare who has the best. So far, Rome has the best gialotto and Sorrento the best Pizza. For dinner we ate at this Restaurante on the same street as the Hostel called Tortellino’s Pizzaria. They made there Pizza in a brick oven so I was looking forward to it. We had to make a reservation so in the hour we had to wait; we headed a couple blocks down to the Italian/Irish Pub for a brew. It was a great little place but a little out of place. Dinner was good, I had a Fettuccini Alfredo and David got a pizza and pasta. They expect you to eat three courses here; I can’t believe know one is fat. But I guess with all the walking it takes care of it. The funny thing about the pizza is …. Well David hates onions, cant stand them. He wasn’t quit sure what pizza he ordered but the name sounded good. Well when the pizza came, it was LOADED with white onions. HE ordered an onion pizza it was hilarious. He was a good sport and hate a few bites but wow be careful to read the fine print when ordering. We decided to also get a bottle of wine to go with our meal, my mistake because I really didn’t want any but we got a shiraz. The WORST shiraz ever. So not only was the pizza a let down but so was the wine. I was drunk and tired by the end of it all and just wanted to get back to the hostel. Once there we watched some Olympics on the big screen while listening to this American nimrod talking to some Brits about how he worked for American Idol and was blabbing on and on and on about the judging and how the whole system worked, we were tired of listening to him talk because he had something to say about everything. Apparently he liked to hear his own voice so we cut our time short in the rec hall and headed to bed.
We didnt take a lot of pictures in Florence , but we got postcards to make up for it
