Day 89
April 3rd
Catania, Sicily, Italy
Mount Etna, volcano #1 of this area
We rented a van for 7 people and Terry and I having our international driver’s licenses were the designated drivers and navigators. Apparently, you don’t need one but if you get stopped, you pay dearly if you don’t.
So I got us lost and Terry tried with great difficulty to get us through a pay station on the super highway; eventually we climbed to the top station of Mt-Etna. We drove from the sea, past farms, under lemon and orange trees, up brush then gravel and ended in snow, absolutely lovely switchbacks. On the return trip, Terry stopped under a lemon tree and I grabbed a fruit, to eat back at home on the ship: delicieux and sweet.
We made it home safely.
