Arriving in La Spezia by train we walked around for awhile until deciding on a nice hotel to say at... My One Hotel... We were restless from a long train ride so headed straight out to explore... What we found was gorgeous... La Spezia is a quaint old town and we honestly didn't hear or see any english speaking people... I guess coz its the end of the season! We stopped by a lovely little wine bar to sample more Italian wine and Prosecco (fizzy bubbles) for Jen Jen!! With our drinks they brought us the hugest platter of tasties ever!! We werent sure if we would have to pay or not but we decided it would be worth it anyway!! We picked our way through olives, cocktail onions, salami, pistachios, peanuts, dips and bread stix! and then ta da it was FREE! So off to the next bar for drinks and bugger buying din dins this evening.... The next three bars saw us get increasingly drunk but like mama says you have to eat when you drink and boy did we ever and for FREE!!!!! hehe.

Up early the next morning we headed off to the Cinque Terre.... (Five terraces in english). First stop Rigamorre. Getting off the train we walked to the top of a steep stair case and admired one of the most spectacular coast lines we have seen, easily comparable to the amalfi coast, and tasi! Doing what we do best we started the day with a local wine each mm mmm... hehe! And yes we are getting FAT! Realising this fact we then took a lovely 20 minute walk along the coat to Manarola. Manarola is a beautiful little town full of boats (dingys! Not flash ones). It was a gorgeous sunny day and we were ready to hike!! Problem One.... We sat down in the lovely town of Manarola for some lunch... and you guessed it wine! Andy had a bland tomato pasta that he made awesome with cracked pepper, parmesan and chilli! Jen had a small seafood tasting plate (not as good as tasi seafood!). 1L of wine and some free shots later and we could barely walk let alone stumble hehe. So ready to hike and very drunk we stumbled and giggled our way along an hour and a half hike into Cortona. We were then faced with a 365 stair climb up to the town.... umm no thanks not today.... so we caught the train back to La Spezia and called it a day!! After more exploring in La Spezia that evening we shared a pizza for dinner from a cafe that had the biggest pizza menu ever!!!

The next morning it was back to the cinque... We headed straight to cortona in preparation to hike the big hill! Problem.... Jen wore flimsy flip flops... what happened to the super dooper hiking shoes? I forgot okay! So we discovered a shuttle bus and yes took the fattys way up to the top!! hehe! We explored Cortona and did lots of climbing in and out of alleyways.... Just before lunch we took the train to Vernazza! And yes we did walk down that 365 stair trail and it was easy hehe.... In Vernazza there were also many little boats and picturesque photos to be taken.... Jen ate worm like pasta with pesto for lunch. andy... you guessed it, spaghetti aglio olio! Knowing that the last terre was going to be awesome we jumped on the train and headed for Monterosso. Monterosso was gorgeous with long beachs and heaps of alleys and bobbled paths to explore... After a walk along the beach we discovered the Oldest Wine Bar in the Cinque Terre.... So we did a wine tasting activity hehe... We were given one white wine from each of the terraces. And then once again we stumbled home =-) It was an early night as we were headed to Switzerland the following morning
