This time I visited the Colosseum, which was worth it since I arrived early and it wasn't too too touristy in May. But in July and August? No way. Though it would be difficult not to 'when in Rome.' Besides, there are dilapidated ruins throughout the city that could be more interesting to visit than some of the main sites, since you'd have them all to yourself.
The forum and chariot track always requires some imagination, which isn't too difficult considering the history there.
