Today I am writing you from Roma, Italia!!! It was a long flight and I am exhausted! We left Hartford at 1:00PM. We drove to JKF. The bus rides was interesting with multiple games of "questions," which I wrecked everyone. Just like quarters!!! Anyways, getting my tickets and going through security was no problem. Thank goddess since I had so much trouble with my passport. Some of the others students were on different planes but thank god we had Lorraine. Unfortunately they no longer have Wifi in airports so I couldn't get any of my work done. I had missed class on Monday so I was already behind. We explored the airport and had our last American meal McDonalds! We boarded our flight which took us to London. The flight took 7hrs. The did feed us a meal which surprisingly wasn't bad. I watched Harry Potter and slept most of the flight. Sitting on the plane with Oscar in my hand was difficulty for me. I started to miss home. Luckily Chelsea is here and getting me through it.
In London everyone was exhausted already. We had a two hour lay over before we took our 3hr plane to Rome.
Piazza Foutain
Made in 1600 B.C. I got some sushi in preparation for Shanghai. In that air port I wasn't feel top shape but I am assuming it was stress and lack of sleep. We boarded our next plane which I was lucky to sit next to a fat, ginger man offering John and I Oxycontin. PERFECT! I forced myself to sleep so I didn't have to smell him. WE FINALLY LANDED IN ROME!!!!! No one had lost luggage and we were off! The first impression of Rome was that they all had little vehicles. It is unusual to see a four passenger car here!!! We loaded up our luggage and we were off to Trastevere (the part of town we are living)!!!
We were met by a man name Francesco who is an Architect and the University in Rome and also our tour guide. We were meet by guides to show us our hotels. All five girls are living together. At first we though the place was cute until we realized we had cram four girls into this apt. It got even more frustrating once we saw how BIG the other guys apts where!!!! We do have maids but we are responsible for cooking
in Rome. Good think my roommates can cook or I would starve. We only had an hour to get ready before we started our Rome Trastevere Tour to get a look at the area.
This place is indescribable. You can tell this place is old. Every building has amazing details on the side and the streets are all cobble stone. They showed us the local grocery store and a few piazzas which is an open square and public gather place. They are located all over the city and are good landmarks to find your way. They showed us the way to school. We always walk because there is always something new to look at. This city is a place out of a story book. I wish my photos could do more justice. The path to our school goes through some of the famous piazzas. I am still bad at Italian so I can't give you names yet. The piazza right outside our apt has fresh fruit and veggies for sale every morning. Every Sunday there is a huge flea market which sales very nice items for cheap. Its definitely on my todo list. The fountain down the street was
made in 1600 B.C. just so you can get a since of the structures here!!!
RPI is partnered with the University of Arkansas and are classes are in an ancient building! Everyone at the University speaks English which is helpful. Our school was built in the 1200s! Our school used to be home of the National Architecture group. Famous Architectures lectured and studied in my same classroom.
It was an exhausting day and I am finally ready to get some shut eye!!! Stay tuned from week one of classes in Roma!!!
Cia,
Stacey Marie
