Well if the train ride to Rome is any indication of how I will like it then Im off to a good start. I met a Fryer from the Francescian order and we talk all about his interesting life and about how his order came to be. As it happens St. Francis of Assisi started their order and Assisi is only 30 minutes from Perugia. In fact, I was going to go there but got side tracked by the Jazz Festival. We went right past Assisi on our train ride to Rome and he pointed out all the important sits as we went by. When we got to Rome we took the A line together and he showed me all the ins and outs of navigating the metro system in Rome. He saved me so much time and frustration of having to try to learn it all on my own and I got to my hostel well on time which is a first for this whole trip.

There are so many things to do in Rome and not enough time to do them all in. On Sunday I went to see the Coliseum and
the ruins of the Palace. I loved trying to imagine what they both looked like when they were new. They were both very impressive in ruins it must have been jaw-dropping when they were complete and finished with marble. Most of the marble on the walls were stripped off and used in the surrounding churches but there were still a few places left. It was a little weird to be walking along on dirt and all the sudden be on marble floor. Sunday was so hot! I thought I was going to melt away. When I reached the drinking fountain I filled my water bottle and then soaked my hair with it before filling up my bottle again to drink. It felt so nice to cool off with my hair wet. When I first did it the people all around me just stared but then others started doing it too (Well the guys did any way 😉. After that I soaked my hair every time I got to a fountain it was so nice. Most fountains in Italy are supplied by aqueduct so the water is nice and cold. When I got back to the hostel everyone was talking about
how hot the day had been and I asked what it had gotten up to because it was the hottest I felt since it got to 37C in Turin. We looked it up on the internet and guess what? It was only 25C according to the weather. I dont believe it. There is no way it was only 25C. The few people in the hostel not from cooler countries made fun of us about it. Speaking of the hostel, the one in Rome is full of North Americans especially Canadians. Weve all tooken to calling each other by where we are from so Ive been re-named Alberta.
