Day 11 Sunday 25th December

Merry Christmas! We gathered together this morning to exchange gifts before breakfast. Most people received special momentos of their travels, including Venetian masks, pocket knives, jewellery and chocolate.

Our local guide showed us more of the features of the ancient city of Rome today. Despite the rain, we were amazed by the magnitude of the Colosseum. Our guide impressed us with her detailed explanation of the features of the building. We then headed to St Peter’s Square where we saw the pope and were present for his Christmas blessing.

We then headed to another Italian restaurant for our five course Christmas lunch. We then chose to go back to the hotel where we had a quiet afternoon and evening to recover from some late nights.
