Trevi Fountain
Built by Nicolo Salvi who died in 1751 before it's completion. Finished in 1762 by Giuseppe Pannini. Sorry to anyone who's been waiting by the seat of their pants for my blog posts but wait no more I have 3 days worth of Roman adventures!
I'm going to post an individual blog for each day so it's not one huge post. I would have done the posts by day in Rome but it cost 27 euro a day to use the internet at the hotel I was staying at so I opted to wait until I returned to Vicenza where I have free internet! Well day one began with a lovel 4 1/2 hour train ride. A good friend of mine got me 3 free nights at the Hilton because he is a frequent hotel roomer. If this had not been the case I would not have been able to spend as much time as I did in Rome. Thanks Blain! Where was I?...oh yes so after the 4 1/2 hour train ride I jump on the subway and get off at the stop closest to my hotel which from looking at the map looks fairly close and as I am now a professional walker I choose to walk instead of wasting money on a cab which I'm
soon to regret. After a couple miles I start getting into a more residential area that is starting to become a very steep hill. It is 90 degrees out I have jeans on, I'm carrying my back pack (with lap top and other crap), a bag of my clothes and accessories, and my huge camera bag. Well the road continues to get steeper and windier and less pedestrian friendly. Now I'm starting to doubt if this is the right way and I'm scared I'm going to die under the wheels of a Vespa or Mini Cooper so I turn around and go back down the hill and ask for directions which was of no help since I don't understand Italian but I was hoping that I was close enough to where she could just point in the general direction. WRONG. So I go into a grocery and ask them and they tell me in very broken english to go back up the hill I just came down...ahhhhh! I am on the verge of tears but I march me and my ruck sack back up the hill and finally find the hotel! Well it is the nicest hotel I have ever
stayed at and I was on the Executive Level at that with the private Executive Club Room...I be big pimpn' spending no cheese! Anywho so after my 2 hour ordeal I get cleaned up and grab the next shuttle into the city. My first site is the Trevi Fountain. :0 That was my expression. Absolutely gorgeous and I wanted to jump in the water so badly! Well after 20 minutes of oooing, awwwing and taking numerous pics I moved on to the Pantheon. :0 Again, my expression. I can't believe I'm inside of a building that was built nearly 2,000 years ago and has dead bodies in it! The famous painter Raphael, several Kings, and Queen Margherita ( Margherita pizza is named after her) are all buried inside. After, a few more kodak moments I realized my legs could take no more due to my early morning mountain climb and I decided to call it a day and head back to the hotel. I decided to bring back my own food for dinner because the snack size Pringles' in the computerized mini bar cost 9 euro ($14) and if anything was removed for longer than 30 seconds it would automatically
be charged to your room, so I wasn't about to ask how much a meal cost! I also noticed the toilettree's were the brand Hermes...so I asked front desk if they were complimentary because I didn't want a surprise charge of $500 on my bill..the lady looked at me like I was crazy and said yes they were complimentary...hey better safe than sorry!
