Last weekend my friend Jen and I went with Roma Baptist Church on a women's retreat! We left early on Friday morning with a few other ladies to help set everything up. We arrived in Castel Gandolfo around noon and ate at a small resturant beside the beautiful lake.
The hotel that we stayed at has been converted from a monastary. It sits high on the hills surrounding the lake, giving beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and the sea, which is only a few kilometers away. Jen and my's room had a great view of the gardens just beside the hotel, the peace and quiet was such a nice break from the usual noise in Trastevere. Also, I was so excited to have a comfortable bed with fluffy pillows!!
The rest of the ladies arrived in time for dinner, which was served in a way that made us feel like we were in a boarding school--the long heavy wooden tables where food was passed and all stood together in silence for the prayer, quite an experience!
We had a very relaxing and refreshing time worshiping, learning, and enjoying the tranquility of the lake, I know living in Roma is somewhat of a vacation in itself, but this was a needed break from the city life.
