Amazing
Docked early Civitavecchia 6.45a.m.. Every day we have different little challenges, like the blind leading the blind sometimes but we always manage to end up where we are supposed to. Up early and first 10 or so off the boat, had to be shuttled out of the port, about 2kms, huge port with about 5 cruise ships in port, the Med seems to be full of cruise ships. Then a 1km walk to the train station, 7.34 train to Rome, we decided to train it here as a long way into Rome, took over an hour by train. The time went very quickly as it was a lovely landscape along the way with lots of full bloom sunflowers, vineyards, market gardens and animals. We decided to get off at San Pietro (for St Peters Square) which was a few stops before the main central station Termini, then a 10n minute walk to St Peters Square and then got the Hop on Hop Off bus around which was a good way to go, saw a lot of the sites, Colosseum, then got off near Trevi Fountain and walked to Trevi Fountain and then to the Spanish Steps - then caught subway to

Republica and had a nice walk around there and a bit of lunch, walked 12km today. Glorious day in Rome about 28 degrees so not too bad for walking. Eventually found Termini Station and our platform (without a word of a lie it was more than a 1km walk from the entrance to the train to Civitavecchia - all aboard and on our way. Some girl kept coming up to me and saying Signora? but couldn't get what she wanted - but heard her talking to some guys behind us and hear the word "Bucharest", more than likely GYPSIES!!! - the mother pregnant, the teenager with her boobs hanging out - I said to John "don't feel right about these people" as they seemed to all know each other - then as we sped along in the train three different lots put pieces of paper on seats opposite where everyone was sitting saying, I am poor, no work, homeless and have three children to feed for God's sake give me money. Was glad when the train pulled into Civatavecchia.

We love Rome!
Isn't it beautiful, its on our list to return and spend some time in Italy, maybe a home swap to Tuscany for a month - we get enough offers! Lyndon and I used to go an sit at Trevi fountain each evening as the convenience store there sold beer for 60c - Lyndon was in heaven!! We also found central station seedy and uncomfortable. We are so pleased you are having an awesome time.
