We said goodbye to the Dolomites and our lovely apartment and hosts yesterday morning, and drove south, visiting two pretty towns on the way to to the airport to return our car. He was a Germanart historianand the founder of modern archaeology. He was murdered in Trieste on 8 June 1768, in a hotel bed by a fellow traveller. There is a cenotaph here (a tomb without a body) and and museum dedicated to him.
