Just amazing...2600 years old
Day 21 Naples to Salerno

We spent our last day in Napoli visiting the Archeology Museum, a somewhat frustrating and quite expensive experience.

The night before, we had a a big thunderstorm, with a lot of hail....then steady rain....

We took the train to Salerno, a port city with a few sights, which will be our hub for the next few days...visiting Pompeii and Paestum.
We walked around Salerno the first full day here...this has the feel of a real city....not all spiffed up for tourists.

Day 23 Paestum

We had a great day there...visiting Greek temples and Roman ruins in the warm sun...butterflies and wildflowers all around. More in the pix section!

A few things I've forgotten to say:

Each bathroom has a safety feature: a cord you pull in the shower that sets off an alarm. At first we used these as clotheslines...!

We have learned to drink our espresso at the counter to save money...about a third of the price of table service.

Most Italians live in three to six story apartment buildings, even in the country. We have seen no housing developments with single family homes...none!

I was a primary teacher in a K-12 alternative school. In 2006, I took a leave for four months, travelling through Central America. I visited schools and studied Spanish along with being a tourist. My class followed my travels through this blog. I have continued to use this blog to keep friends, family and my students connected to my travels, recently in Mexico and now Kenya! 2009 I am now retired and my husband and I hope to do even more traveling! I am volunteering in an after-school program on the Indian reservation where we live and at the local art museu... full info

Keep those photos coming.
This is so great. A free trip to Italy with good friends and no waiting in lines! I had lunch (Japanese) with Linda today. We also went to a weight training class at Island Hospital. We were stars. What does that tell you about the rest of the class? Right, oldies but goodies. Anyway, tomorrow we are going on a MONA docent field grip all the way to Guemes Island to Phil McCracken's home and studio + a couple of others. It will be nice to be on an all day art trip. This aftrenoon, I'm busy in the office sending out stuff to let my "sphere" know that I'm still in the RE business. You'll be getting a calendar for the fridg! I think you would give me a referral, if the subject came up, right? Okay, Bill, I'll give the calendar to Lynn! Anyway, the sun is out today and I'm inside the office, so that's not good! Best thoughts, Breta
