Fat Sheep
We've got a cool video of this. It is funny. Monday, June 16, 2008
Galway, Ireland
After the golf and sightseeing on Sunday, we slept very well. We decided to pack up and drive to Galway. But first, I had to drive back to the Royal Portrush Golf Course to find my eyeglasses. I left them in the rented golf bag which I used on Sunday.
Fortunately, we found the glasses and we headed off. Our new GPS guide, Bonnie-our Scottish lass, was set for Galway and we headed out. It was only one turn before we started wondering if Bonnie had ever visited Ireland. She guided us onto a single lane farm road for the first mile. About half way we met a sheep herd being driven down the lane. These were the fattest sheep that I have ever seen. Jackie worried that this may be their last trip to the slaughter house. I think they were headed to be sheered.
We had overcast skies for the drive but no rain. We made decent time, with only the occasional farm machine slowing the pace.
We arrived in Galway about 2:00pm. Our RS’s guide book recommended some B&Bs and that’s where we headed. Our first pick was fully booked so we

We know that we have roots here. But so far I haven't seen any other Dorsey's. took the one next door. We have the Galway Greyhound Racetrack out our back window. We had a late lunch at the Huntsman Pub, nearby.
We took our clothes to a nearby laundry and left them for later pickup. Then back to the B&B for a short nap. After, we drove over to visit the St. Nicholas’s Cathedral. It was one of the last great cathedrals built in Europe, opening in 1965, with Cardinal Cushing handling the ceremony. They were having 6:00pm Mass so Jackie and I joined in. The church is large seating over 2000 for service. In one of the stain glass windows, John Kennedy is pictured in a scene with Jesus. Apparently, he was considered almost a saint here.
After this we walked around the village. We saw the pubs that both Rick Steves and my family recommended. We stopped for a couple of pints. We were searching for a pub that would be carrying the US Open Golf playoff. Tiger was playing against Rocco Mediate. Sadly, we could not find any. Many had TVs but they were all on soccer.
Then it started raining and of course we forgot our umbrellas. So, we ran back to

So, we watched reruns of “Friends.” Fortunately, Brother Lamar sent me play by play on MSN instant messenger about the golf. Of course, Tiger was able to pull it out and win.
Before 10:00pm, Jackie was asleep and I was finishing the blog for the weekend. It is now Tuesday morning and we are headed down for breakfast. We’ve changed our plans. Earlier we were planning to stay here two nights but now we plan to drive south. Don’t know yet where we will end. Stay tuned and you’ll find out.
Cheers,
Tom & Jackie
