Our Route

So, here we are about to set off on our South American adventure. 3 months of trekking around some of the most beautiful countries in the world with such diverse landscapes. The question is whose going to carry my bags...??

For those of you who would like to keep up with our journey, here is an overview of where we are going and when we intend to be there:

April 4th - Argentina

Flying into Buenos Aires, Argentina - 2 days there and then flying down to El Calafate. Day trip from here to the Los Glacieres National Park and the Puerito Moreno glacier.

Then off to the Torres del paine National Park for some hiking, probably for around 4-5 days and across a glacier too.

Mid April

After that, up to Bariloche and area and the 7 Lakes Drive

Late April - Chile & Bolivia

Head up North via Santiago, Chile (not stopping as it ain't meant to be worth it) and Antofagasta (border of the Atacama desert) to the world's largest salt flats, this is meant to be top notch.. into Bolivia at this stage

Then there's a few places on the list but not to sure if we'll get there ... depends on time/bus/etc... Oruro, Potosi Mines, Sucre and Cochabamba

Start of May - Bolivia

Basically we're targetting 15 days in the animal rescue place (Inti Wara Yassi) or Parque Machia in Bolivia (attached Google Earth thingy). We get some hands on experience with native animals that have been rescued under various circumstances.

.... not sure if it'll be before or after La Paz.

Mid May - Bolivia & Peru

So, few days in La Paz to acclimatize to altitude. Day trip out for a 'bit of fun'... cycling down the 'Road of Death' 😊 ... fun...

Lake Titicaca and Puno, Peru - boat/day trip out to an island

Late May - Peru

Train (probably) to Cuzco and Machu Picchu, Peru.... can't wait, there are rumours they are considering restricting tourist access to Machu Picchu to preserve it..

Round trip Cuzco - Nazca Lines

Arequipa and back to La Paz.

Start of June - Brazil

Then, all depending on time left, flight from La Paz to Rio or Sao Paulo, Brazil and the following places/routes to be done... in no particular order:

Fly to Amazon basin, i.e. Manaus, Brazil for 3-4 day excursion to see the 'meeting of the rivers' and back

Salvador de Bahia - a must place to see in Brazil ..

Mid June

Rio (obviously)
Rent car in Rio and drive along the coast (stop off at an island) to Sao Paulo and stay in the Schulz's house (called Vale Verde) Day trip to Sao Paulo

Road trip: Curitiba -> Foz do Igacua .. again, can't wait.. world's largest (by volume of water) waterfall and back..

Possibly continue on from Foz to Buenos Aires (via Paraguay) if time is getting short (instead of heading all the way back to Sao Paulo to drop the car off).....

Fly out of Buenos Aires on 4th July, arrive Frankfurt then straight on to Dublin.

Not too much detail in place here but will try to update as we go around!
