Up early’ish and into the shower. Extra cost for that as well. Decided that we would keep the shower in the Motorhome for emergencies as well as the toilet.
Breakfast was had sitting in the sun outside and relatively warm already. We then set off to view the geyser. Our camp boss had suggested a path that went up the hill from the camp. You can look down on the geyser and it is a very scenic walk he said. OK, bloody hell. Even the goats would be suspect of this steep climb. Made it after a few rest stops and got to see the geyser blow, from above. And very scenic it was.
Down the hill past a few other hot springs bubbling away and the slight odor of sulphur is there. Got down to ground level beside the geyser and watched it blow a few times - pics setup and missed so again…….
Finally off. First stop was to an eco village. Interesting but not much happening. Had lunch in the van - sandwiches. Very nice.
Now to our next waterfall. On the way we passed quite a few waterfalls spilling down the hills then
found our target - Skogafoss. Wow, more so for the amount of vehicles and people everywhere. Waterfall is amazing. The power it produced was mighty and the spray awesome. Many wet bodies coming out of there after trying to pose really really close for pics. Not us.
Then a very short drive up the next one (Kvernufoss). This is reported as a waterfall that you can stand behind to view the waterfall.
And after a shortish walk it appeared. Very long splendid waterfalls cascading into a pool below. With people behind the water curtain. Of course we had to be part of that trick. No trick, just a dodgy walk around the rocks to get behind the waterfall. Damp with spray but well worth the effort.
Drive to Vik, largish town where we saw waves crashing on the beach for the first time in Iceland. Got some extra shopping done. They had a huge shop called Iceware. They produce the Iceland jumpers, but machine made, along with lots of other stuff. Huge store along the lines of say Kathmandu but on steroids. Nothing bought but some lovely stuff. S tad expensive though when you get a jacket
priced at $750 AUD.
Shopping done so on to our next camp site. This last drive was like crossing the Nullabour but with moss covered lava type ground instead of sand. The road was also straight and boring but again some ripper sites along the way. We had been seeing a huge glacier on a mountain for a while but at one stage it came down near the road. What a site.
Landed at our camp site (Kirkjubæjarklaustri) and eventually got hooked up to power. Try pronouncing some of these place names…..
A few motorbike dudes along with some intrepid treadly riders and quite a few tents here. Nothing much else do around here so we will be on the road quick smart tomorrow.
Again the light kills us for time. Eat at 2100 again. Hard to judge when to start cooking with all this light all night.
