The campsite in Pannonhalma was delightful and while we bought bread in the morning from the local baker, Wendy had an impromptu lesson on how to say thank you in Hungarian much to the shop assistant’s amusement.
There is an attractive area called the Danube Bend where the river winds through a series of hills just north of Budapest. We drove there and visited the town of Esztergom which is dominated by its basilica built between1822 and 1869, the largest in Hungary.
We stopped at a picturesque riverside campsite at the village of Domos in the heart of the Danube Bend. The very friendly and helpful owners made us most welcome.
