We had another fantastic authentic Greek meal last night! We walked to a near by town called Plaka. The walk was about 10 minutes down the road from our resort. This town is much quieter than Elounda and much closer. We walked there but decided to take a taxi home. I order two appetizers and a salad as my dinner. I had stuffed wine leaves and a REAL Greek salad. The real version of this salad is much different than what we have at home! The portion was huge! There was a huge piece of feta on top, tomato, olives, onion, cucumber, a piece or two of lettuce, and a small amount of olive oil. The ingredients we cut into huge pieces. I barely put a dent in the salad! I noticed the table behind me split that same salad for a family of eight. ! I also ordered oven cooked butter beans. The beans were the only thing out of the whole meal that I didn’t like. Clay order stewed veal with onions. I didn’t think it sounded good but let me tell you it was delicious. I had food envy for sure. After he tried his first bite he
said try this and tell me what it reminds you of……my first thought was Skyline Chili! Come to think of it I think the chef of skyline is Greek. I need to check on that. If not, then the spices taste just the same! We also had a wonderful dessert with vanilla ice cream. Then they gave us another dessert compliments of the kitchen and then fruit on a plate. They also gave us arikan. (I know that I ‘m not spelling that correctly) which is strong. Clay loved it but it burned my throat! We finally finished our dinner around midnight and headed home. A little known fact is… the Greek people are extremely friendly and love taking time with meals! I don’t know what to do with myself taking hour and a half dinners! I’m usually shoveling in food and chasing Mia!
Today was Clay’s first taste of what a college spring break was like! He researched this Greek water park while we were at home! The name of the place was called Star Beach and it was located about an hour away from our hotel! We took a taxi and it cost us about 55 Euro
each way (over $100 us dollar). So we pull up to this place and it is packed with 20 something’s! There was no cost to get in just money to ride the slides and do other water activities like bungee, jet sky, and tubing.
We decided to buy a wristband so that we could go down the slides. We had a blast going up and down for a little while! Then Clay decided that he wanted to get some drinks at the bar! Let me tell you this place was packed. We had a few drinks and Clay started to have a good time. I looked around and realized that out of the hundreds of 20 something’s at the place….I was the ONLY one with 1) water shoes on (you all know that I have a germ thing) and 2) a tankini. Oh wait; there was a pregnant girl with a one piece on! Every single girl had on a bikini. Man I felt out of place!
After a few cocktails we decided to do a reverse bungee! This is where you sit inside a steel ball, strap yourself in, and fly high in the sky! Think of it as a giant water balloon launcher and we were the water balloon! I told the guy to count us down and he acted like he was going to and then FLY……we were up in the sky! We got to watch the video tape after it was over! I wanted to buy the video tape but unfortunately there were just a few curse words on the tape!
We headed back to the “spring break” party and had another awesome Greek dish. This time is tasted like Skyline Chili lasagna. After that we sat at the bar and waited for the “foam party” to start. Before the party started they had a few drinking games and silly spring break games then…….the foam started flying. The music was techno and the suds were plentiful. I’ve attached a few pics but they do not do the foam dance floor justice. I don’t know how they made the foam but is just kept coming and coming! At one point the foam was completely over my head and I just had a small area in front of my face to breathe! I started getting really Closter phobic! It was close to six o’ clock and our driver was about to come and get us. We hopped back in the cab and headed back to our resort.
The cab driver has become our friend and decided to drive us wherever we need to go! On Saturday he is going to take us up to the mountains to a huge cave where Zeus was born. We are gong to ride donkeys because the walk is so hard! He said that the view was unbelievable. He is going to charge us about $200 Euro to be our “private” tour guide for the day! A little know fact…..I have seen a lot of really old Greek women dressed all in black. They will wear a black dress and have a black scarf on their heads. I was told that after a woman loses a child or her husband she wears black for the rest of her life. The old men and women here in Greece look exactly like you would expect them to look. I will try and get a picture and show you! They are so cute!
I am going to go and wake Clay up since it is 9 o’ clock in the p.m.! I am getting hungry for dinner! I hope you all are enjoying our blog! Tomorrow we plan on staying around the resort but you never know!
